Verdict 8.4 / 10 – Fort Lauderdale, Florida There's a big reason big trucks have become so popular amongst the lifestyle crowd: they're getting much easier to drive, live with, and look at. The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD, for example, now has some of the best technology and interior materials of any truck in the class. The arrival of the ZR2 and Bison off-road trims for the first time even means you'll be able to take this monster truck on the trail. So even if you're not regularly towing or hauling, the Silverado 2500 makes a lot of sense as a daily. In terms of all-around usability, the LT model I tested strikes the best balance of luxury and capability for the right price. Tick a few boxes and you get real leather, real wood, a huge touchscreen, and a punchy turbodiesel engine all for around $73,000 as-tested. A vehicle's ratings are relative only to its own segment and not the new-vehicle market as a whole. Ecclestone made new Russian GP deal more “efficient” · RaceFans
The Russian Grand Prix promoter credits Bernie Ecclestone for helping to extend the race’s contract to 2025. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free The event, which has taken place at the Sochi Autodrom since 2014, already has a longer contract than the majority of rounds on the 2019 F1 calendar . Russia’s last contract extension was announced in March 2017, a few weeks after Ecclestone was replaced as CEO of F1 by Chase Carey of Liberty Media . But race promoter Sergey Vorobyov stressed Ecclestone’s input had been vital. “It’s been an interesting situation,” he told RaceFans in an exclusive interview. “We started talking about the extension of the contract with Bernie and he did help us to find the proper way to [get] Russian sponsors to the event. “The Russian Grand Prix is sponsored by VTB and Lukoil, the official event sponsors, and he did propose the way how to make it so that it’s beneficial for everyone – the sponsor and for the promoter. WPDC: Ecclestone’s breakaway threat which set the template for modern F1 · RaceFans
As high as the stakes are in modern Formula 1, the battle for the sport’s future which raged at the dawn of the eighties was fought with particular ferocity. The political fall-out even led to some races being cancelled. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free But, as a trove of documents unearthed by @DieterRencken reveals, this fraught period in the sport’s history played a unique role in shaping modern F1. In early 1980 Formula 1 was a battleground. The lines were drawn between the mostly British teams, dubbed ‘garagistes’ by Enzo Ferrari on account of building cars using proprietary components from suppliers (Cosworth engines, Hewland gearboxes), and their opponents headed by FISA, then the sporting arm of the FIA. The FISA-aligned teams ‘grande’ teams included manufacturers Ferrari, Renault and Alfa Romeo, who surveyed the ongoing skirmishes nervously, and periodically switched allegiances according to their agendas. The ‘garagistes’ battled under the … [Read more...] about WPDC: Ecclestone’s breakaway threat which set the template for modern F1 · RaceFans
Melissa Jimenez: Who is Fernando Alonso’s rumoured new girlfriend?
After the rumours that he was dating Taylor Swift, Fernando Alonso’s new girlfriend is apparently Spanish F1 journalist Melissa Jimenez. Following his split from Austrian TV broadcaster Andrea Schlager, Fernando Alonso did nothing to dispel the circulating rumour that he had begun dating American country and pop singer Taylor Swift. In fact, Alonso even leaned into the rumours, sharing a cheeky social media post in which he used Swift’s music and winked at the camera. When pressed on the matter, Alonso wouldn’t be forced into passing comment, saying he prefers to keep his personal and professional life apart. However, Alonso doesn’t seem averse to finding dates in his professional work environment, as his latest rumoured girlfriend also works in the Formula 1 paddock. Alonso has been spotted in the company of F1 broadcaster Melissa Jimenez, with Spanish magazine Hola publishing photos of the couple together in a car, while Italian publication La Repubblica have also reported … [Read more...] about Melissa Jimenez: Who is Fernando Alonso’s rumoured new girlfriend?

Lando Norris casts verdict on McLaren’s ‘big signing’ from Red Bull
Lando Norris spoke highly of McLaren’s incoming recruit Rob Marshall, and can say “with confidence” that the team is moving in the right direction. Early in 2023 McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown tasked team principal Andrea Stella with an internal review after the team made a disappointing start to the campaign, carrying on from a development programme in the season prior which had left Brown dissatisfied. The end result was a major overhaul of the technical staff structure within the team, while James Key left the technical director role with immediate effect. And now important new pieces of the puzzle are starting to fall into place, ex-Ferrari vehicle concept chief David Sanchez preparing to join McLaren at the start of next year, and while another important acquisition has now been made. While Sanchez will take on the ‘technical director of car concept and performance’ role at McLaren, Rob Marshall will make the switch from Red Bull, their chief engineering officer calling … [Read more...] about Lando Norris casts verdict on McLaren’s ‘big signing’ from Red Bull
Jaguar Land Rover Rebrand To JLR Is Official, New Logo Revealed
The days of Jaguar Land Rover are officially over, at least in name. As of June 1, the UK-based luxury automaker is officially known as JLR. You can probably guess where the three letters come from, but this is more than just an abbreviation of a slightly awkward title. It's a new corporate identity that sees iconic Land Rover models transition to brands under a new JLR umbrella, on the same footing as Jaguar. We first heard about this change in mid-April , presented as part of JLR's $18.6 billion Reimagine strategy. At that price, JLR is obviously doing more than just creating a new logo. Manufacturing facilities are being upgraded and overhauled for the electric future, and the automaker has plans to move swiftly in that direction. We already know about JLR's next-gen ELR platform for electric SUVs, slated to underpin the Range Rover EV in 2025 . On Jaguar's side of the fence, a new JEA platform will also arrive that year for three new EVs, including a four-door GT that's … [Read more...] about Jaguar Land Rover Rebrand To JLR Is Official, New Logo Revealed
