The first-generation Hyundai Santro was the first car to make the tall-boy design very popular in the Indian market. Later, the likes of Maruti Suzuki WagonR joined the bandwagon and its popularity rose through the roof. WagonR remains one of the best selling cars in the country even today. The all-new Santro has made a comeback to the Indian market and it would take on the likes of Tata Tiago and Renault Kwid in the market but the Maruti Suzuki WagonR would be the direct rival to the Santro in the market. Here is a detailed comparison showing which of these two offers the best in the market. Exterior: Design and dimensions The all-new Santro shares nothing with the older model except for the name. Even though Hyundai still calls it the “Tall Boy”, the all-new Santro has lost around 30mm of height. It is based on the now-discontinued i10 hatchback and the design is inspired quite a bit by it. Hyundai has made the Santro look modern with the deep creases around the body. The … [Read more...] about Hyundai Santro vs Maruti WagonR: Detailed comparison of the arch-rivals

Maruti Suzuki will launch the new WagonR early next year. According to Gaadiwaadi, production of the hatchback has already begun at the automaker’s Manesar factory. The car will replace the existing version and is expected to be sold in two style options – Regular and StingRay. Here is a render that shows what the new, India-spec WagonR could look like. As the render indicates, the all-new WagonR will remain true to the tall boy design – a characteristic trait that has been common across multiple generations of the car. The new version is also not expected to move to the HEARTECT platform. Instead, Maruti is said to be using the same platform that the outgoing car was based on, with specific changes to meet new crash test norms. As for the engine and transmission, the new car is expected to carry over the mechanicals of the outgoing version. With about 50% share in the world's fourth biggest car market, Maruti enjoys a reputation of churning out best sellers every year and cars that everyone truly loves. But there have been examples that are best forgotten, at times when Maruti decided to take a risk and offer something that would cause a stir. Here are 8 Maruti Suzuki cars that tried and failed:1. Maruti Zen ClassicThe original Zen was India’s first hot hatch, with a peppy 1.0 engine and cute jellybean styling to go with it. It sold in numbers and gained an almost cult status among car lovers. However, the same could not be said about the 'World Car' Zen Classic. Its retro styled front and rear sported way too much chrome than was needed, and it could be called unattractive at best. Although mechanically the same as the original, the bling styling never really worked its way into the market and led to its early demise.2. Maruti VersaA high price tag when it was launched was the main reason for the Versa’s lack … [Read more...] about 8 Maruti Suzuki cars that are best forgotten

The “tall boy” design will continue through the next generation. The spy shot shows that the redesigned model having a large windshield and oddly designed large windows. Also, it hints at featuring swept-back vertical headlamps similar to those of the JDM-spec Suzuki WagonR Stingray. The all-new Maruti Wagon R will likely arrive as Maruti Suzuki’s most economical model underpinned by the light and rigid new-generation platform “Heartect”.
