The rev needle is creeping ever close to the 6,000rpm redline, and the bug eyes in the Baleno RS' rearview mirror refuse to grow smaller. Clutch in, fourth gear, clutch out. Quick glance up to the mirror. Nope, still there. There's an impossibly long and ever-so-gradual left-hander coming up. I think I can shake the black motorcycle off my tail. Caress the brakes, shift the weight forward, turn in. Glance up. I see the rider shift his own weight, stick a knee out, and lean into the corner. The Baleno leans the other way, I lean in the driver's seat to counter it. The gap grows, as does the grin on my face. The mid-range on this thing is astounding! Much stronger than the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated on the regular car, it pulls hard from above 3,000 on the dials to a few hundred short of the redline. I don't get to there this time though. There's a speed breaker ahead. The grin disappears. Hard on the brakes, thank my stars for four-wheel disc brakes, downshift once, twice, thrice. … [Read more...] about BalleRS: Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS or Triumph Street Triple RS?
Maruti Suzuki, the largest car manufacturer in India, has announced a price hike across its entire model lineup. The company says that the price increase is “owing to increase in commodity and distribution costs and adverse foreign exchange rates.” With this, all Maruti cars have become costlier by up to INR 6,100.It may be noted here that most of the Maruti Suzuki cars are heavily localized. However, the increase in prices is owing to the rise in the cost of raw materials and the Indian rupee getting weaker against the US dollar. Currently, the Indian rupee is at an all-time low of 70.30 to a dollar. A weakening currency leads to a rise in the import costs of the materials. The very popular Maruti Vitara Brezza sub-4-metre compact SUV is said to have received the biggest increment in the prices. It's noteworthy that the Vitara Brezza, which is a diesel-only model, is the highest selling car in its segment. It rivals the likes of Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport.Maruti … [Read more...] about Maruti Suzuki hikes prices across the range
In some ways we Indians are now a truly empowered people, simply because our consumers now have the power to 'pick and choose'. The Collins English Dictionary defines 'pick and choose' as, "When you carefully choose only things that you really want and reject the others". Yes, thanks to the growing economy and rise in disposable incomes, along with the availability of a plethora of products, almost every Indian now only wants to buy what attracts him, and what's latest in the market. The vehicle has to be different and it must offer something out of the ordinary. And of course it must look good, have lots of features, be a good performer, while obviously also providing good value. Despite some serious competition, Maruti Suzuki has been able to maintain its stranglehold as market leader, mainly because it's able to deliver all of the above. Maruti have really worked hard and done well to have a large variety of vehicles in their portfolio, almost all of which are most successful in our … [Read more...] about Auto siblings: Maruti Suzuki Baleno, New-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift and Maruti Suzuki Ignis
It’s now well established that Toyota will badge engineer the Maruti Suzuki Baleno premium hatchback and sell it in India. This is expected to be somewhat like the Nissan Micra and its badge engineered sibling, the Renault Pulse. While the Toyota badged Baleno is a year or two away from a commercial launch in India, here is a speculative render that will give you an idea of what the car could look like. As seen in the render, the Toyota-badged Baleno is expected to have completely different front-end and rear-end styling. This is crucial as Toyota can’t be seen selling the baleno with minor stylistic changes and with just the Toyota badging. The Japanese automaker will have to dig deep into its design talent and come up with something that looks quite striking. This aspect assumes even more criticality as the Toyota-badged Baleno is expected to be pricier than the Maruti version. This means that the buyer will expect that something extra from the premium hatchback with the … [Read more...] about Maruti Suzuki Baleno with Toyota clothes: Here’s what it’ll look like
