It was announced last week that, as of July 1, Allison will hold a newly-created position of chief technical officer, a change that some interpreted as a possible first step to him eventually being the overall head of the team. Wolff retains the team principal job for the foreseeable future, having explored his options over the past year. The Austrian has made it clear that he will eventually move aside, but he stressed that the job won't go to Allison. "I would say if you look at things, he would absolutely be capable to be the team principal," Wolff said of Allison. "And also the people here, there's so much respect [for him] within the organisation. "But the thing is very easy. He said, 'Never, ever I would do this. Team principal requires different skills.' And so he said, 'No, thank you. No'. "James and I speak multiple times every single day. And we're totally coordinated on the strategic direction of Mercedes Motorsport, and Mercedes Grand Prix. So much earlier … [Read more...] about Allison doesn’t want Mercedes F1 team boss role – Wolff

2022 Mercedes-Benz EQB Debuts In China With AMG Line, 288 HP
It arrives in China and Europe this year, with a US launch in 2022. Mercedes continues its EV rollout today with the launch of the EQB compact crossover. It joins the recently revealed EQS and EQA , and collectively they are just the beginning of the company's electrification plans. The new EQB is debuting at Auto Shanghai 2021, with the new model launching first in China and then in Europe this year. It will arrive in the US in 2022. One of the new model's standout features is its packaging. The EQB measures 4,684 millimeters (184.4 inches) long, about four inches shorter than a Ford Mustang while accommodating up to three rows of seats for seven people, which will be the model's standard configuration in China. The third row is otherwise optional. The third row can accommodate everything from two child seats up to adults measuring 1.65 meters (5.4 feet) tall. The five-seat model offers between 495 to 1,710 liters (17.1 to 60.4 cubic feet) of cargo … [Read more...] about 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQB Debuts In China With AMG Line, 288 HP
2021 Audi A7L Officially Revealed, And Yes, It’s A Sedan
It's a sedan version of a Sportback version of a sedan. The first Audi for China developed through the SAIC joint venture is debuting this week at Auto Shanghai 2021. Complementing the Audi-FAW A6L sedan and regular A7, the A7L eschews the Sportback body style of its global cousin and opts instead for a traditional sedan with a proper trunk lid. With customers in the People's Republic having a soft spot for rear legroom, the newcomer has a significantly longer wheelbase than the original Sportback. The distance between the axles has grown by 98 millimeters (3.85 inches) to 3,026 mm (119.1 in) and the whole car now measures a stately 5,076 mm (199.8 in). It's still overall shorter than the standard A8 , but curiously, the wheelbase is a smidge longer compared to the non-LWB A8. There's not much to say about the design since the A7L is basically a stretched sedan derivative of the Sportback. That holds true for the interior as well, effectively carried over from the … [Read more...] about 2021 Audi A7L Officially Revealed, And Yes, It’s A Sedan
2022 BMW M3, M4 Competition xDrive Debut With Better Acceleration
They're quicker to 60 mph by 0.4 seconds than the rear-wheel-drive models. We knew the xDrive versions were coming ever since BMW introduced the rear-wheel-drive M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe in September 2020. They're finally here, and if you don't mind losing the stick shift since AWD is reserved to the auto-only Competition versions, these are considerably quicker than their Competition-spec RWD counterparts. Before we delve into all the juicy numbers, let's keep in mind these are the first M3 and M4 models to offer AWD. Available exclusively with an eight-speed, torque-converter automatic transmission developed by ZF, the M3 Competition xDrive and M4 Competition xDrive share the twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six with the RWD Competition models . Power stays the same at 503 hp and 479 pound-feet (650 Newton-meters) of torque, but the 0-60 mph time has been shaved off by 0.4 seconds to only 3.4 seconds. The top speed is electronically capped at 155 mph (250 km/h), but the optional … [Read more...] about 2022 BMW M3, M4 Competition xDrive Debut With Better Acceleration
