Formula 1 is the pinnacle of motorsport, as we are often told. But to get to the pinnacle you have to pass through a journey and in a competitive environment like motorsports that means overcoming significant hurdles. Those hurdles are even greater for drivers coming from outside Europe, as was spelled out quite plainly at the FIA Sport Conference in Manila. For F1 to market itself as the best drivers in the world, it really needs to have the best drivers in the world, who have come up through the ranks from countries around the globe. Today it cannot really say that. The cost of climbing the ladder is prohibitively high and access to the feeder series is limited, especially in regions like Asia. And yet if Asia could produce a quality driver, the sport would have greater chance of thriving in the region. F1 CEO Chase Carey appeared in a panel discussion on Day 1 of the conference with Asian drivers Alex Yoong and Marlon Stockinger, which looked at how to find a way for … [Read more...] about Formula 1 and Asia: What are the next steps?

Top Gear buffs aren’t fans of the show’s new hosts. British fans of the television show Top Gear are not happy with the program’s two newest hosts , Paddy McGuinness and Andrew Flintoff. The BBC announced yesterday that the Lancaster lads will begin presenting the automotive program – alongside current host Chris Harris – in late 2019. While most of the rest of the world may be unfamiliar with McGuinness and Flintoff, the two are known entities in the United Kingdom. McGuinness is a British comic with a resume of work that spans more than two decades, while Flintoff is a former professional cricket player. It’s a big donation for two Detroit businesses Spring has arrived in Southeast Michigan, at least according to the calendar, and that must have given Ford the cleaning bug. The company recently discovered two pallets of unused leather hides worth more than $100,000 lying around its product development center, which it’s cleaning out in preparation for its new campus. Ford didn’t want the leather to end in the landfill, so it found two community-focused Detroit businesses to donate it to. The hides have ended up at Pingree Detroit and Mend on the Move. The worker-owned Pingree employs local veterans and area Detroiters while earning a living wage and learning skilled trades. The company, founded in 2015, turns reclaimed leather from the auto industry into boots, wallets, and drink coasters. Mend on the Move employees women survivors of abuse from the Metro Detroit area. The women make jewelry and other leather goods. Gallery: Ford Donates Leather Hides 13 … [Read more...] about Ford Found Pile Of Leather Worth $100K Just Lying Around, Donates It

In the future, everything from the television that you watch to the books you read will come from a subscription service, appearing and disappearing from the various services as the platform dictates. Netflix and Spotify have popularized the business model; now automakers are elbowing their way into the game. Mercedes is the latest automaker looking to cash in on the idea of an automotive subscription service, according to Automotive News . Mercedes made the announcement it would start a pilot subscription service in two U.S. cities this June during brand’s meeting at the National Automobile Dealers Association. Exactly where those two U.S. cities are unknown. However, one city is said to be home to three Mercedes dealerships while the other has two. "The dealer board said if Mercedes was going to do something, we want … [Read more...] about Mercedes Launching Subscription Services In The U.S. This June
