MotoGP announced on Friday morning that the world championship is set to stage the return of the Indonesian Grand Prix in 2022 at the Mandalika Street Circuit. The track is part of a $3 billion tourism project on the island of Lombok, which includes hotels and a golf course. MotoGP is eyeing hosting a test at the track later this year, while World Superbikes is set to race there in November. However, on March 31 in a joint statement led by the UN’s Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights Olivier De Schutter, it highlighted the destruction of houses, fields, water sources and cultural and religious sites, as well as population expulsions. The report says local residents were threatened and evicted by force without compensation, this information coming from “credible sources”. The project has received $1 billion in private investment, which is managed by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. The report criticised a lack of due diligence … [Read more...] about UN issues damning report on Indonesian venue set to host MotoGP

Witnessing death at Pikes Peak: a first person account of Bobby Goodin’s final moments
First and foremost, I am writing this with a heavy heart. Second, I have allowed some time to pass so that my emotions regarding the event would not cloud my judgement on the incident. Third, in no way is the following letter meant to be degrading or attempt to point fingers at the organizers of PPIHC and company. I watched a man die on Sunday, at the summit of Pikes Peak. My eyewitness account is not necessarily important, and I quite definitely do not wish to relive the incident that took place atop that mountain. However, I will recall, to the best of my ability, the series of events that took place that fateful morning. As this was my first and quite possibly sole attendance to the world famous hill climb, I wanted to experience the most of the event. It is important to note that parking at the top is extremely limited, and makes for a difficult transit up or down the final Sector. Rather than take the media shuttle from the host hotel, I opted to park at Devil's … [Read more...] about Witnessing death at Pikes Peak: a first person account of Bobby Goodin’s final moments
Audi CEO Says An Electric R8 ‘Could Make Sense’
So you're saying there's a chance? Audi CEO Markus Duesmann believes that EVs are the future of the Four Rings , and this might mean the revival of the R8 E-Tron or a vehicle like it. Just don't expect to see the model too soon. Audi builds the new E-Tron GT electric sedan on the same production line as the R8, meaning that the site can already make EVs. Top Gear asked Duesmann about the prospects of building an electric R8. "That wasn’t the original idea," he told Top Gear . "But it could make sense. We could do it if we wanted to." Ghiotto, Floersch set to race in DTM in 2021
Italian driver Ghiotto is considered the favourite for the second seat at Mercedes customer Haupt Racing Team, where he could partner factory AMG driver Maximilian Gotz. Although the 26-year-old brings some budget along with him, he has also enjoyed a successful career in junior single-seaters, finishing runner-up to current Alpine Formula 1 driver Esteban Ocon in GP3 in 2015 and winning six races at GP2/F2 level over the next five seasons. Ghiotto was due to make a full-time move to sportscar racing last year after signing a deal with R-Motorsport Aston Martin for both legs of the GT World Challenge Europe, but chose to continue racing simultaneously in F2 with Hitech GP. Ghiotto ultimately didn’t get to take part in GTWCE at all after R-Motorsport withdrew from the series, and his only GT3 outing of the year in the Bathurst 12 Hour enduro was cut short after teammate Marvin Kirchhofer crashed the team’s Aston Martin Vantage GT3 in qualifying. He is now set to take … [Read more...] about Ghiotto, Floersch set to race in DTM in 2021
Pontiac Collector Wants To Open A Pontiac Museum In Pontiac, Michigan
That's a whole lot of love for the defunct GM brand. Over 10 years ago, Pontiac officially went out of business leaving a dent in American automotive history.
