Improved small-overlap performance and active-safety gear result in high marks. The all-new 2017 Audi A4 receives a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. That’s a big improvement over the outgoing A4, which didn’t receive the prestigious commendation because of poor performance in the challenging small-overlap crash test. The 2009-2016 Audi A4 received Good ratings in every IIHS test except small-overlap, where it was slammed with a Poor rating because “The driver's space was seriously compromised by intruding structure” during the test. According to the paper, “sex on the go” will become common as self-driving cars become the norm.
