Formula 1 and Asia: What are the next steps?

· June 5, 2018 ·

Formula 1 is the pinnacle of motorsport, as we are often told. But to get to the pinnacle you have to pass through a journey and in a competitive environment like motorsports that means overcoming significant hurdles. Those hurdles are even greater for drivers coming from outside Europe, as was spelled out quite plainly at the FIA Sport Conference in Manila. For F1 to market itself as the best drivers in the world, it really needs to have the best drivers in the world, who have come up through the ranks from countries around the globe. Today it cannot really say that. The cost of climbing the ladder is prohibitively high and access to the feeder series is limited, especially in regions like Asia. And yet if Asia could produce a quality driver, the sport would have greater chance of thriving in the region. F1 CEO Chase Carey appeared in a panel discussion on Day 1 of the conference with Asian drivers Alex Yoong and Marlon Stockinger, which looked at how to find a way for … [Read more...] about Formula 1 and Asia: What are the next steps?

Dyson Racing heads to home track with memories of their past

· July 5, 2013 ·

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY July 2, 2013 -- Thirty years ago, Rob Dyson raced a 1983 Firebird in his first professional race at the IMSA Coca-Cola Three Hours of Lime Rock. He had been racing in the SCCA since 1974 but moved into professional racing on that Memorial Day. Of the thirty-seven cars entered that day, only one team still racing today: Dyson Racing. The team will be officially commemorating their thirtieth anniversary at the American Le Mans Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park next weekend, July 5 - 6. Many of the team's milestones over the past thirty years have occurred at Lime Rock Park, their home track with their shop less than an hour away. Two years after first running the 1983 Firebird, Rob Dyson moved up to an IMSA GTP Porsche 962 and debuted the car at Lime Rock in May of 1985 and won the first time out. The following year, the Lime Rock GTP race was the first professional pole for the team. The team also gave Mazda its first P2 victory at Lime Rock in 2009. Hamilton: Man on a mission or a last hurrah?

· March 24, 2021 ·

It's a question that is impossible to answer, simply because even the man himself is adamant that he doesn't yet know. Speculation about Hamilton's career plans has been rife since his new one-year deal was finally announced on February 8, a little over a month before the start of testing in Bahrain. It's not the first time that he has gone into a season with only that year left on a contract, but usually it's been at the conclusion of a longer deal. This time around it's different, and the fact that the current arrangement was concluded so late reflects the complex bargaining process before both sides were happy. By agreeing a one-year deal, Hamilton has kept his options open – and so has team boss Toto Wolff. Throw in the availability of George Russell, and potentially Max Verstappen, and there is plenty about which to speculate. It all feeds into the ongoing debate on what Hamilton might choose to do at the end of this season. First, he has the chance to secure … [Read more...] about Hamilton: Man on a mission or a last hurrah?

Who Owns This Ferrari: The Guy It Was Stolen From Or The Guy Who Bought It?

· March 26, 2021 ·

One of the just 349 F50s is having some ownership issues. There are only 349 Ferrari F50 units existing in the world. Introduced in 1995, the mid-engine sports car is one of the iconic nameplates coming from Italy, with the last one rolling off the assembly line in 1997. However, one of these rare Ferrari units is having a hard time finding its rightful owner. Specifically, a federal case in Buffalo, New York spells a conundrum as to who is the real owner of a 1996 Ferrari F50 that has a market value of $1.94 million. Gallery: 1995 Ferrari F50 11 Photos According to the report, the sports car was taken into custody by the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as it's being transported from Canada into the United States at the Peace Bridge Port of Entry on December 14, 2019. It raised alarm because of the seemingly tampered VIN plate. The federal government has … [Read more...] about Who Owns This Ferrari: The Guy It Was Stolen From Or The Guy Who Bought It?
