PROTOTYPES The field started the eighth hour with a reset due to the fourth caution of the day, a very quick pitstop allowing the Mazda RT24-P of defending Sebring winner Jonathan Bomarito into the lead ahead of Renger van der Zande in the Chip Ganassi Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R and Ricky Taylor’s Wayne Taylor Racing Acura ARX-05. Behind this trio was the Meyer Shank Racing Acura of Dane Cameron, who had served a drive-through penalty in the seventh hour for accidentally punting Bomarito’s Mazda into a spin. Then Felipe Nasr in the two-laps-down #31 Action Express Racing Cadillac bounced viciously off a Turn 1 bump trying to go up the inside of Tristan Vautier’s JDC-Miller Motorsports Cadillac. Both looped into a spin, Vautier striking the tire barrier, and the pair pitted for bodywork checkups. During the sixth caution for Timothe Buret’s huge shunt, the DPis all pitted, and the restart saw the Wayne Taylor Racing Acura ARX-05 of Filipe Albuquerque ahead of the Chip Ganassi Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R driven by Scott Dixon, Olivier Pla in the Meyer Shank Racing Acura ahead of the erstwhile leading Mazda, now driven by Oliver Jarvis. At the drop of the green, Dixon immediately surged past Albuquerque to grab the lead, and soon Pla had also demoted the WTR Caddy. Dixon stretched away from the turbo cars, by almost 1sec per lap, while Pla pulled a six second lead over Albuquerque who had Jarvis in his mirrors. But the Mazda also had company behind – the #48 AXR Cadillac now driven by Simon Pagenaud. That car was already destined to be classified last in class, however, as Pagenaud had exceeded maximum drive time. The field got a reset at the start of the fourth hour with the second full course yellow, allowing Simon Pagenaud, who had shown great pace through the race’s opening quarter, into the lead in Action Express Racing’s part-time second car, ahead of defending Sebring 12 Hrs winner Harry Tincknell in the Mazda RT24-P. Third and fourth for the restart were the two cars that had been battling for the lead, Filipe Albuquerque in the Wayne Taylor Racing Acura and Scott Dixon in Chip Ganassi Racing’s Cadillac. However, Dixon was passed by his former IndyCar rival Juan Pablo Montoya in the Meyer Shank Racing Acura ARX-05, and after the next restart – following the long third caution period – Montoya got ahead of fellow Acura driver Albuquerque and into third. There's a 2.0 Mazda-sourced engine under the hood. Hurtan is a Granada-based small-scale automaker, focused on building retro-looking vehicles with modern technologies. About two months ago, the Spanish company unveiled its Grand Albaycin roadster based on the Mazda MX-5 , and now there’s a new version of that car. Just like Mazda has a hardtop version of the two-seater, Hurtan is launching the Grand Albaycin Bespoke based on the MX-5 Miata RF. Logically, this means the soft-top mechanism is replaced by an automatic hardtop roof, which can be finished in a different color compared to the rest of the body for a two-tone paint scheme.
