Lewis Hamilton has said he is ready to extend his career beyond 2020 after giving his seal of approval to Formula One's next-generation car. On the eve of the Singapore Grand Prix, F1 provided a glimpse into the future after a concept of the machinery the sport hopes will inspire a new breed of fans was unveiled. Ross Brawn, the English engineering mastermind who oversaw Michael Schumacher's record seven championships at Benetton and Ferrari, is at the helm of F1's technical body, and here at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, he led the presentation. The 63-year-old, who returned to the sport following Liberty Media's £6.4billion takeover last January, has promised to create beautiful cars, closer racing and fiercer competition. Earlier this year, reports surfaced with regards to BMW’s intentions, or better yet lack of, to build all-new replacements for their i3 and i8 models. Yet, if the i3 does eventually make a generational shift (let’s say in the coming years), could it look anything like this digital drawing by designer Joost Bianchi? As far as we’re concerned, it depends on what direction BMW might want to take with the car and whether or not they would open up the cabin to allow for more passenger room. These renderings clearly show a more futuristic approach to the i3, while keeping the design of the car instantly recognizable – at least when looking at its profile. The artist eventually settled on a more streamlined exterior, opting to go with thin horizontal taillights over more conventional ones, and a sleek front fascia that sort of reminds us of the current car, although made to look more futuristic.
