Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. jumped after saying it's likely to announce a deal to spin off or sell a piece of its Starz cable network in September, with potential partners also showing interest in the company's film and TV studios. Shares surged 11% to $10.71 at 10:10 a.m. in New York, valuing the media company at about $2.3 billion. Lions Gate has been working with advisers this year to sell a stake in Starz, known for shows like "Power" and "Outlander." Executives have argued that Wall Street is undervaluing the company in its current structure. Lions Gate is one of the last remaining independent studios after tech giants and larger companies snapped up its competitors. "The structure that we're considering has become broader," Lions Gate Vice Chairman Michael Burns said on an earnings call Thursday. "As always, our priority is to create significant shareholder value." The $8.5 billion sale of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer to Amazon.com last year helped spur interest and give … [Read more...] about Lions Gate surges as Starz deal talks widen to include studio

Mercedes-AMG One Spied Preparing For Nurburgring Lap Record Attempt
Listen to this article The Mercedes-AMG One might be gearing up for an attempt to set a lap record around the Nürburgring Nordschleife. This video shows the hypercar preparing to roll onto the track and doing some high-speed laps. In the clip, the One initially drives up to a gate that opens onto the Nordschleife. There's a little bit of time, which lets the driver select the appropriate settings for the track. This causes the vents on top of the front fenders to open and the rear wing to extend. Gallery: 2023 Mercedes-AMG One 64 Photos Warning messages on the rear deck are an intriguing detail. The one on the right is a message in German not to open this section. On the left, there's more detail: "Remove carefully. Thermocouples on tech panel. See Dale or Ibrahim." The One then hits the track, and it sounds amazing. The car looks to be turning quick … [Read more...] about Mercedes-AMG One Spied Preparing For Nurburgring Lap Record Attempt

Vin Scully, famed sports broadcaster for 67 years, dies at 94
This is a carousel. He was 94. Scully died at his home in the Hidden Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles, the team announced after being informed by family members. No cause of death was provided. “He was the best there ever was,” pitcher Clayton Kershaw said after the Dodgers' game in San Francisco. “Just such a special man. I’m grateful and thankful I got to know him as well as I did.” As the longest tenured broadcaster with a single team in pro sports history, Scully saw it all and called it all. He began in the 1950s era of Pee Wee Reese and Jackie Robinson, on to the 1960s with Don Drysdale and Sandy Koufax, … [Read more...] about Vin Scully, famed sports broadcaster for 67 years, dies at 94
LS-Swapped Mitsubishi Minicab Has Four-Wheel Steering And A Death Wish
Listen to this article In the wonderful world of Kei cars, the Mitsubishi Minicab is an adorable little truck with a tiny engine and lots of heart. It's obvious this particular Mitsubishi has a very different mission in life, and while it might retain a bit of that adorable persona, it's morphed into a V8-powered monster with a wild four-wheel-steering system. And this is just the beginning. This modded Minicab is called Stomper, for reasons that should be obvious. The small wheels and smaller engine are long gone, replaced here by 33-inch off-road tires and an LS V8 of unknown size. The video doesn't offer complete details on the engine, but considering the biggest stock Minicab motor is a 660 cc four-cylinder, any LS V8 is a major upgrade. And oh yeah, there are a couple of turbos bolted on to make sure the driving experience is absolutely terrifying. Actually, the sheer power may not be the scariest part of this rig. It features a prototype four-wheel steering system that … [Read more...] about LS-Swapped Mitsubishi Minicab Has Four-Wheel Steering And A Death Wish
What F1 can learn (and forget) about NASCAR · RaceFans
I watched the first round of the 2008 NASCAR season yesterday – the Daytona 500. I’m not a big fan of the style of racing but I’ve got a list as long as my arm of the things F1 can learn from NASCAR’s presentation. What F1 can learn from NASCAR… Loads more cameras – F1 uses a few distant, wide-angle cameras to cover the races, and a couple of high-mounted on-board cameras. NASCAR has stacks of on-board cameras (admittedly it’s easier to fit them to big stock cars), static wall cameras that shake as the cameras pass, helicopter and blimp cameras, and cameras in the floor to show the cars zipping past. It gets the most out of the spectacle. Team radio – Constant chatter from the teams and drivers was fed throughout the NASCAR broadcast – even a discussion between two team mates at one point. F1 teams are allowed to withhold their conversations from the airwaves – which Ferrari and McLaren make heavy use of. The radios should be open and free for TV stations to use and … [Read more...] about What F1 can learn (and forget) about NASCAR · RaceFans
Callaway Launches Two Supercharger Kits For GM’s Trucks And SUVs
Listen to this article Callaway has two new engine upgrades for GM’s trucks and SUVs. The two new kits – SC520 and SC602 – add a supercharger, a proprietary engine management calibration, and more to crank up the power for the automaker’s V8 engines. Callaway designed the kits for GM’s 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter V8 engines. This increases the smaller engine’s output to 520 horsepower (382 kilowatts) while the bigger block produces 602 hp (442 kW). That’s up to 182 horsepower extra over the stock output for the 6.2-liter engine, and the upgrades comply with emissions standards in all 50 states. Gallery: Callaway Launches Supercharger Kits For GM Trucks And SUVs 24 Photos The tuner achieves the increased output by adding an Eaton TVS supercharger concealed in Callaway’s proprietary housing while using its TripleCooled intercooler system. The kit also includes an … [Read more...] about Callaway Launches Two Supercharger Kits For GM’s Trucks And SUVs

Aston Martin Valkyrie And Full Carbon McLaren Senna Make A Splash In London
Listen to this article Who needs car shows when you can simply walk on the streets of London to check out high-end models? A year-round automotive festival, the United Kingdom's capital typically hosts the most exotic vehicles in the world, and these days you might be lucky enough to stumble upon two local products. Believed to be the first delivered to a UK customer, this yellow Aston Martin Valkyrie with red accents is only one of the 150 road-going hypercars to be made. As it stands, the Gaydon-based marque has allegedly delivered roughly 27 cars out of a total of 38 assembled, according to Autocar . Some of these early examples have been plagued with software issues, but Aston Martin chairman Lawrence Stroll says customers are nevertheless enjoying their hypercars. This video showing a Valkyrie arriving at Topaz Detailing gives us an idea of how brutal the V12 sounds even when the car is barely moving. The naturally aspirated 6.5-liter Cosworth engine revs to 11,000 … [Read more...] about Aston Martin Valkyrie And Full Carbon McLaren Senna Make A Splash In London
