Pro drivers coach amateurs around the track in new Lexus LC 500s. And the results are as cool as snow! Just the other day, Lexus teased us with an ominous announcement of an impending Facebook live presentation. All we knew at the time was that it involved race car drivers, the Lexus LC, and a giant candy cane — all of which sounds like a good time. And the finished product turned out to be just that. In fact, it was a full 90-minute tire-smoking, corner-carving, tire-screeching good time. And if you missed the live broadcast, you’re still in luck. Lexus was kind enough to also post the whole shebang on YouTube, since FB live can get a little janky every now and then. You’ll also be happy to know that the whole thing is well worth watching. Turns out, legendary racer Scott Pruett and drift pro Ryan Tuerck weren’t the only ones wheeling a Lexus LC around the racetrack. Two lucky Lexus fans were able to learn some techniques with those two hotshoes … [Read more...] about Lexus LC Coupes Enjoy Holiday Playdate on Track

Turning any concept car into reality is no small feat, not least the striking Lexus LC coupe. According to chief engineer Koji Sato and chief designer Tadao Mori, turning the LF-LC concept into a road car proved to be a complex affair. “(Akio) Toyoda-san loved the LF-LC design, but knew that it was a great challenge for us, possibly the greatest challenge since Lexus created the original LS,” Sato said. “Every feature on the LC is the result of an integrated approach to design and engineering. The whole team worked together, engineers and designers alike. This is why we have been able to create such a great car,” he added. Packaging was tasked with greater demands, given the confines of the aesthetics that the team of designers were working with. “Everything presented a challenge, but it was the packaging – how we made use of space in the car – that was the most demanding aspect: how to keep a low roof, but at the same time keep the cabin … [Read more...] about Lexus’ design team gives an insight into the LC coupe
Flagship Lexus LC coupes destined for Europe have begun assembly at the automaker’s Motomachi plant in Japan, the birthplace of the LFA supercar. The factory was retooled for production of Lexus’ newest model. Engineers in the final assembly area work in an all-white environment, which Lexus says helps employees focus on their tasks. Each worker’s job on the assembly line takes 20 minutes to allow enough time for quality control. Lexus employs heavy use of glass and LED lighting along the assembly line so workers can examine their work with accuracy. This includes an inspection zone for the exhaust silencer with thicker glass to isolate idiosyncrasies in sound quality. Lexus offers the LC coupe with a V-8 engine producing 467 hp or a hybrid drivetrain featuring a 295-hp V-6 coupled with a 59-hp electric motor. Shifts are delivered through a 10-speed automatic for all-gas models while the hybrid gets two transmissions: a conventional four-speed automatic and a … [Read more...] about 2018 Lexus LC Coupe Production Ramps Up for Europe
This new Lexus coupe has been in the works for a long time. Seen here on test alongside benchmark cars like the BMW 6-Series, this new big Lexus coupe is expected to be called the Lexus LC, as the company trademarked the names LC 500 and LC 500h in the US last year. The Lexus LC was first previewed in the form of the Lexus LF-LC Concept way back in 2012. Two versions were shown – a red car at the 2012 Detroit Motor Show and a blue car at the 2012 Australian International Motor Show in Sydney. The 500 badging indicated by the trademarks could suggest a 5.0 litre powertrain like the V8 mill seen in the RC F being used in this one. We haven’t seen a 500h in the Lexus line-up before – this could mean an uprated version of the 450h hybrid system which combines a 3.5 litre V6 with the Lexus Hybrid Drive system. … [Read more...] about SPIED: Lexus LC Coupe – new 6-Series fighter?
With the North American International Auto Show coming up in Detroit next month, Lexus let loose some appetizing information about their world introduction of their new LC 500 Coupe. The boys at Bloomberg had a chance to converse with Lexus about the upcoming tasty two-door, four-seater LC. Which is coming at a good time, since Lexus has been missing a flagship sportscar since the SC was discontinued in 2010. And this is a segment that’s quickly getting hot, with the new Benz S-Class Coupe and BMW 6-Series. Certain aspects of the Lexus LC sound like it will definitely differentiate itself from the pack. Lexus is changing their game. It was even mentioned in the piece that Mr. Toyoda himself wants to maneuver the company away from its proud reliability badge and edge more towards a passionate and performance driven company. The LC Coupe is the result of a half decade of concepting rear-drive coupes, like the LF-LC, which the LC derives from. Through Toyota’s partnering with … [Read more...] about More Details on the Lexus LC Coupe’s Introduction
The Lexus LC has been widely praised for bringing back the sexy GT car. But some feel like it has one minor issue. Read any review in any printed or web based publication (including ours), and you’ll quickly realize that the new Lexus LC coupe is a pretty well-regarded vehicle. Everyone loves its gorgeous lines, stylish and comfy cabin, and primo technology. It’s a car that has single-handedly brought back a segment we all thought was gone forever – the grand touring coupe. However, as The Grand Tour‘s Jeremy Clarkson often says, “there’s a problem.” That problem is quite simple. Some people feel like a car that costs north of $90k should perform, well, better. We never expected the 471 hp, 4,300+ pound coupe to be a barn burner. But after Car & Driver tested a new Lexus LC 500, many were disappointed by the outcome. It took them 4.6 seconds to reach 60 miles per hour, and 13.0 seconds flat to complete the quarter mile. Now, if you … [Read more...] about Is the Lexus LC Too Slow, or Just Right?
A racing-inspired version of the Lexus LC 500, created by Gordon Ting/Beyond Marketing, debuted today at the 2016 SEMA Show. The world’s first customized LC 500 features aerodynamic body work, upgraded suspension, brakes, wheels, tires, and new interior executed by Evasive Motorsports and an engine build imagined by Hard Media, Inc. and D SPORT Magazine, turning the Lexus 5.0-L V8 engine, which is also shared with RC F and GS F, into a 5.6-L with 525 horsepower. One of the major challenges presented by this first modified Lexus LC coupe was that the project started with an early developmental prototype a full year before the vehicle hit the market with zero accessory and aftermarket support. Using a very early vehicle, Gordon Ting/Beyond Marketing were able to work with their partners to help drive development of the first body kit, performance suspension and brake kits for this new model which could be on the market in spring of 2017 when the LC goes on sale. “The LC … [Read more...] about 2016 Lexus LC 500 SEMA Concept
