Watch 6-year-old Oliver try to ‘steal’ second base at Astros game
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 8 The Astros got a big win over the Mets on Tuesday night , but the highlight of the game came from 6-year-old Oliver from Mont Belvieu. Houston Astros Tickets Vivid Seats Shop Now Before the seventh inning of the Astros’ 8-2 victory, Oliver was picked to go on the field and “steal a base.” The promotion involves a child racing against the clock to run to a base temporarily set up on the warning track in the outfield. Oliver wasn’t having anything to do with that temporary base. Instead, he went for a real one. The boy, who lives about 30 miles east of Minute Maid Park, raced to second base and tried to pull it up from the ground. Astros second baseman Jose Altuve and shortstop Mauricio Dubon even came over to help him, but those bags are secured pretty solidly in the ground. “We thought it would be funny to give him the bag, … [Read more...] about Watch 6-year-old Oliver try to ‘steal’ second base at Astros game
‘The Black Phone’ is a ghost story with one great twist
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 5 File "The Black Phone" under ghost stories, but not the kind you might expect. Given the horror-movie résumé of filmmaker Scott Derrickson ("The Exorcism of Emily Rose," "Sinister," "Deliver Us From Evil"), what you'd expect is a touch of the supernatural - subcategory: malevolent. And believe me, you'll get some phantasms here. But the boogeyman in this 1978-set, fiendishly shivery thriller - which Derrickson directed and co-wrote, with C. Robert Cargill, from a short story by Joe Hill, the son of Stephen King - is 100% flesh and blood. And the poltergeist activity? Well, a preview audience erupted in applause (yes, applause) at the contributions of this stylish, thoroughly satisfying B-movie's spectral supporting cast. The bad guy here is known simply as the Grabber, a child-snatching psychopath of the sort found in urban legend and, unfortunately, on the front pages of … [Read more...] about ‘The Black Phone’ is a ghost story with one great twist
Medical staff to be tried for Maradona death
Diego Maradona (centre during the 1986 World Cup) is widely considered one of the greatest footballers in history. BUENOS AIRES: Eight medical personnel will stand trial for alleged criminal negligence in the death of Argentine football legend Diego Maradona, according to a court ruling made public on Wednesday. No date has been set for the trial of the staff over Maradona's death in 2020, which prosecutors say was due to "omissions" by his caregivers who abandoned him "to his fate" during home hospitalization. Maradona died aged 60 while recovering from brain surgery for a blood clot, and after decades of battles with cocaine and alcohol addictions. He was found dead in bed two weeks after going under the knife, in a rented house in an exclusive Buenos Aires neighborhood to where he was brought after being discharged from hospital. He was found to have died of a heart attack. A panel of 20 medical experts convened by Argentina's public prosecutor concluded last year that … [Read more...] about Medical staff to be tried for Maradona death

A non-conquering hero! Flitcroft: The Phantom of the Open
Last Sunday, 27-year-old Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick fulfilled a dream of winning his first major at the US Open, clinching the title in a thrilling finish. The joy on his face was a sight to behold as he explained "it is something I have dreamed of since I was a little kid." Fitzpatrick's achievement, however, could not disguise the deep rift that has emerged in elite golf at the moment between the PGA Tour and the Saudi-backed LIV Golf series. In fact, it's more serious than a rift and the buckets of money involved featuring mind-boggling sums are making the whole situation very messy. At present, no one can be fully sure how it will all pan out. Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy, a strong defender of the PGA Tour, has called it a "sad" situation, referring to it as "the cloud that's hanging over golf." With the British Open at St Andrews only three weeks away, it seems an appropriate time to relate a refreshing golfing story from the past that is not about already rich … [Read more...] about A non-conquering hero!
