NHRA drag racing is one of the most exciting forms of motorsports, particularly its top two classes, Top Fuel and Funny Car. The so-called dragsters and floppers are the kings of the sport, the fastest and quickest rides on four wheels. But something has happened in the first three races of 2018 that is both inexplicable and quite concerning. There have been seven motor explosions in the first three national events in the Funny Car class. That’s an extraordinary number – and there are 21 more national events (including this weekend) on the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series still to come this season. mid-engine prototype was first spotted at the Milford Proving Grounds in early 2015, in a cobbled together Holden Ute no less, speculation has mostly run along two schools of thought: Corvette fans say it’s proof that Zora Arkus-Duntov’s wish of a mid-engine Corvette is finally coming to fruition. Cadillac enthusiasts point to Cadillac’s boss Johan de Nysschen past work at Audi and say the mid-engine prototype is a Cadillac halo car designed to compete with the Audi R8. Recent news that Cadillac is having its new high-performance 4.2 liter twin-turbo V8 built inside the Corvette Assembly Plant’s Performance Build Center has had the effect of pouring gas on these rumors to the point that de Nysschen had to come out at the New York Auto Show to publically call for the speculation to stop as he claims the new engine will be exclusive to Cadillac. When you look at the spy photos of these prototypes, there is nothing design-wise that suggests these are Cadillacs. … [Read more...] about Chevrolet Teases the Mid-Engine C8 Corvette at its Dealer Meetings in Las Vegas
November 12, 2015 by ponycargirl Leave a Comment No one expected rain in the desert, but rain on the Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada it did. Running concurrent with SEMA, the huge automotive aftermarket convention held the first week of November annually, GRC kicked off with an autograph session Monday night at the SLS Casino. Tuesday’s energetic practice on the 1.31 kilometer (.814 mile) track in the bright sun was the opposite of the muddy carnage that would occur the following day. After Steve Arpin and Brian Deegan’s fastest lap times in practice, Steve Arpin won his first GRC pole. Returning to the site of the 2013 championship with the pyramid and sphinx of the Luxor Casino across Las Vegas Boulevard as a backdrop, the roughly 80% pavement / 20% dirt track circled its way around and in on itself, winding around a decrepit mid-century motel. For the season-ender, the signature dirt jump was bypassed by the Kobalt Tools Joker … [Read more...] about Las Vegas – The 2015 Red Bull GRC Championship
