Firefighters responding to a call Thursday morning about an explosion and fire at one of the homes found the body of a person inside, Bolduc said. A short time later, firefighters were called to a second burning home a few blocks away, where the bodies of three people were found inside. Authorities didn't release the names of the dead or say how they died, but they said witnesses reported seeing a man leaving Laurel in a silver car. Michigan library’s future uncertain over LGBTQ material flap
JAMESTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A western Michigan library faced an uncertain future Thursday after a flap over LGBTQ material on its shelves led to the failure of the renewal of a property tax millage that funds most of its budget. The Patmos Library in Jamestown Township outside Grand Rapids will lose 84% of its $245,000 annual budget with the failure of the millage renewal in Tuesday's primary election, said Larry Walton, the library board's president. The millage failed with 1,905 no votes to 1,142 yes votes. A small group of conservative residents campaigned against the renewal because the library refused to remove all LGBTQ material, Walton said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. “They’re protesting all LGBTQ books that are on our shelves,” Walton said. They want it to ban books, he said, “which is unacceptable." “We, the board, will not ban the books,” Walton said. Cody Newhouse, who voted against the millage, told WOOD-TV that even if books are … [Read more...] about Michigan library’s future uncertain over LGBTQ material flap
Visiting the space station? You’ll need a former NASA astronaut as an escort.
Space: It's not for amateurs. At least not in the International Space Station. If you want to visit the orbiting laboratory, NASA now says you must be escorted by a former NASA astronaut, someone who can guide you through the dizzying, disorienting wonders of weightlessness and make sure your presence at the station isn't a burden. The move comes as a number of private citizens are flying to space, changing the definition of what an astronaut is and who gets to be one. Private companies like Blue Origin and SpaceX have sent crews comprised entirely of private citizens to space. (Blue Origin is owned by Jeff Bezos, who also owns The Washington Post.) And NASA has sought to capitalize on the growth of the commercial space sector, announcing in 2019 that it would finally allow private citizens to visit, something Russia had been doing for years. The new rules come a few months after the first private astronaut mission to the ISS from the United States in a flight arranged by … [Read more...] about Visiting the space station? LS-Swapped Mitsubishi Minicab Has Four-Wheel Steering And A Death Wish
Listen to this article In the wonderful world of Kei cars, the Mitsubishi Minicab is an adorable little truck with a tiny engine and lots of heart. It's obvious this particular Mitsubishi has a very different mission in life, and while it might retain a bit of that adorable persona, it's morphed into a V8-powered monster with a wild four-wheel-steering system. And this is just the beginning. This modded Minicab is called Stomper, for reasons that should be obvious. The small wheels and smaller engine are long gone, replaced here by 33-inch off-road tires and an LS V8 of unknown size. The video doesn't offer complete details on the engine, but considering the biggest stock Minicab motor is a 660 cc four-cylinder, any LS V8 is a major upgrade. And oh yeah, there are a couple of turbos bolted on to make sure the driving experience is absolutely terrifying. Actually, the sheer power may not be the scariest part of this rig. It features a prototype four-wheel steering system that … [Read more...] about LS-Swapped Mitsubishi Minicab Has Four-Wheel Steering And A Death Wish
