An original Range Rover and one of the last ever Defenders will headline a Land Rover anniversary parade at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this week, as part of Land Rover’s 70th anniversary celebrations taking place all year. Owners of 70 examples of Land Rover products produced between 1948 and 2018 will drive up the famous hillclimb through the grounds of Goodwood House this Thursday (the first day of this year’s four-day Festival of Speed) to celebrate the popular 4x4’s heritage and the people who love them. One of the stars of the parade will be one of the last Defenders to roll off the production line, owned by Roger Crathorne, known among the company and its fans as “Mr Land Rover”. Crathorne’s last-of-the-line Defender 90 will be joined by other famous models and their owners, including a Camel Trophy Defender owned by Bob and Joe Ives, an original Range Rover from 1970 bearing chassis number 40, owned by gary Pusey, along with a V8-engined … [Read more...] about Goodwood Festival of Speed 2018: Land Rover cavalcade celebrates 70 years of the 4×4

The Land Rover Defender as we know it is dead. After 70 years, the model has been killed off at a time when fuel efficiency is everything and consumers are demanding affordable and accessible crossovers. Admittedly, Land Rover is developing an all-new Defender which, in every measurable way, should be better than its predecessor. But will it have the same soul? That question has yet to be answered. As we wait, the Ares Design Land Rover Defender has launched as a limited-run that looks to retain the character of the original but update and improve it with new parts and an altogether more aggressive and outlandish design. Does it bring the Defender into 2018 and make a great even better? We flew to Modena to find out. New Kid On The Block Ares Design is not a car manufacturer but rather a coachbuilder, a point founder Dany Bahar drives home repeatedly during our visit to the company’s headquarters. Formed in 2014, Ares Design has been quietly slaving away building unique cars for … [Read more...] about We Drive Ares Design’s Defender: A Half Beauty, Half Beast Coachbuilt Land Rover
The Discovery Sport has been a strong weapon in the Land Rover arsenal since it was first released. Here we review the SD4 HSE in five-seat guise to see if it can still cut it with the segment leaders. The 2018 Land Rover Discovery Sport SD4 HSE sits in a crowded, competitive and growing segment – which makes success an even rarer commodity than it might otherwise have been. The Discovery Sport HSE is yet another model variant in a crowded Land Rover portfolio too.Remember the simple old days? Defender and Range Rover? Now we have Vogue, Sport, Velar, Discovery, Discovery Sport, Evoque and – take a breath – Defender replacement finally on its way. If you reckon there isn’t a Land Rover product to suit your tastes, you’re off your rocker then. The Discovery Sport is an interesting one for the British brand, though. Despite segment-leading off-road chops and design quality, the Freelander never really made the impact it had hoped to have, and as such, … [Read more...] about 2018 Land Rover Discovery Sport SD4 HSE review

Land Rover has a reputation for being one of the most unreliable brands on the market. And yet, people still drive them like they’re going out of style. Today’s Nice Price or Crack Pipe Freelander is a Land Rover that has actually gone out of style, but will its price have you bringing it back? Reading through the comments on yesterday’s accident marred 2007 Aston Martin V8 Vantage caused a song to pop into my head. It was the No No Song as recorded by Ringo Starr and Harry Nilsson. It seemed perfectly fitting with the former Beatle and the Aston both being British, and each having notable noses. It was also an apt indicator of your general opinions on that wrecked Aston and its $17,950 price. No, no was the most common answer to the combination of car and price and both fell in a substantial 77-percent Crack Pipe loss. That Aston wasn’t a cautionary tale simply because of its obvious—and less obvious—damage, it was also a product of the flagging … [Read more...] about At $4,499, Could This 2004 Land Rover Freelander SE3 Set You Free?
