Lewis Hamilton was back behind the wheel of the Mercedes W13 as he completed tyre testing at Paul Ricard on Thursday. The seven-time World Champion took part in a day of testing for Pirelli to help them with their 2023 compounds in France, following on from team-mate George Russell’s work on Wednesday. This was the first on-track action Hamilton has had so far in 2023, with last year’s Mercedes getting another run on-track – after the Briton failed to register a win in a season for the first time in his illustrious career as the car struggled with porpoising. Hamilton spent the day testing new Pirelli rubber around Le Castellet, which has been dropped from the Formula 1 calendar in 2023, after a new deal was not agreed to keep France on the schedule. Mercedes posted photos and videos of their drivers catching up with their mechanics before taking to the track for the first time this year, as they look to bounce back from a disappointing season by their standards in 2022. … [Read more...] about Lewis Hamilton hits the track for first time this season at Pirelli tyre test

2016 Canadian Grand Prix team-by-team preview · RaceFans
While Mercedes remain the team to beat their rivals have begun to close in. Red Bull’s engine upgrade could make them a contender for victory this weekend and Ferrari are also bringing new bits for their motor. Which will lead the charge against the silver cars on Sunday? Mercedes The Mercedes team will be very wary of the increased threat posed by Red Bull, but will rely on their dominant power unit to keep them clear of the pack in Canada. This is one of Lewis Hamilton’s favourite circuits, having taken his first victory here in 2007 and reaching the top step three times since. Ferrari Keen to move on from their disappointing performance at Monaco, the team will be spending a further two tokens to upgrade the turbo this weekend. That might be what they need to close the gap between them and Mercedes – and put those troublesome Red Bulls back behind them. Williams The long straights will typically suit the Williams car, but the twisty middle sector will punish … [Read more...] about 2016 Canadian Grand Prix team-by-team preview · RaceFans

New tyres and aero shouldn’t harm overtaking – Hembery · RaceFans
Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery says the changes to F1 cars and tyres in 2017 shouldn’t make overtaking much more difficult. This year’s cars will have wider wings and more powerful aerodynamics, prompting fears drivers will be unable to race each other closely due to the increased turbulence. “The package of aero that’s coming for this season is intended to reduce, if you like, that impact,” said Hembery at the Autosport International show. “The tyres themselves, we’ve made them so there’s less thermal overheating of the surface and the idea of that is you’ll be able to push harder if you’re trying to overtake somebody.” “So between the two the intention is that should be sufficient to give us stronger overtaking.” New lap records “You’ve got a 25 percent increase in the width of the tyre so you’re going to say at least 25 percent [more grip], because we’ve also changed a lot of the technology in the tyre itself,” he said. “The objective we had, as a package … [Read more...] about New tyres and aero shouldn’t harm overtaking – Hembery · RaceFans

Red Bull eclipsing Ferrari as Mercedes’ greatest threat · RaceFans
On lap ten in Melbourne it seemed the 2016 season has begun very well for Ferrari. Sebastian Vettel led the field and the team’s other car was two-and-a-half seconds behind. Kimi Raikkonen had the leading Mercedes of Nico Rosberg covered, and the second silver car belonging to Lewis Hamilton was boxed in behind Max Verstappen’s Toro Rosso. Had it not been for a slip-up in the pits, Ferrari could have converted that strong start into a victory in the opening round of the championship. But six races later that flying start has been largely forgotten. There has been little sign of Ferrari’s Mercedes-rivalling pace we glimpsed in Melbourne since then. Vettel’s move to Ferrari last year seemed perfectly timed. He enjoyed a honeymoon season, taking three victories in what otherwise would have been a Mercedes rout. We quickly became accustomed to his exuberant shouts of ‘grazie ragazzi’ on the team radio. But recently the Ferrari radio has been characterised by explosive bursts of … [Read more...] about Red Bull eclipsing Ferrari as Mercedes’ greatest threat · RaceFans
Fourth-Gen Chevy Camaro Races Swapped Nissan 240SX In LS V8 Showdown
General Motors’ LS engines have ended up in a lot of cars that the American automaker did not make. It has been a go-to motor for enthusiasts and tuners for years because of its power potential, finding its way into an assortment of makes and models, like the 1991 Nissan 240SX in the Hoonigan video above. It’s facing off against another LS-powered monster – a modified fourth-generation Chevrolet Camaro. The 2002 Chevrolet Camaro features a juiced 6.0-liter V8 engine. The output with nitrous is between 700 and 800 horsepower (521 and 596 kilowatts). The power glides to the wheels and the 9.0-inch rear end through a two-speed gearbox. Inside, the owner gave the Chevrolet a safety cage. The Nissan’s owner swapped out the 240’s engine for an LS motor with nitrous. The coupe pumps out around 700 hp, which puts it on par with the Camaro. This would seem like a fairly even race looking at the engine specs, but there is a big difference between the two – weight. The Camaro tips the … [Read more...] about Fourth-Gen Chevy Camaro Races Swapped Nissan 240SX In LS V8 Showdown
Citroen C3 Aircross Looks Larger Than Outgoing Model In New Spy Shots
Citroen is developing the second-generation C3 Aircross. The automaker made it a standalone offering in 2017, giving it its mid-cycle refresh for the 2021 model year. The new C3 Aircross that will replace the current offering was caught by our spy photographers testing in northern Sweden, and it doesn’t look anything like the C3 on sale today. The vehicle looks much larger than the current model. It will allegedly ride on Stellantis’ CMP architecture, which was introduced in 2019 and underpins several models from the company’s various brands. The platform also underpins the Peugeot 2008, which our spy photographers also recently caught out and about .
