The FIA has officially announced the opening of its application process for new “entities with a serious intent to enter Formula 1”, to join the grid in the future. Following on from FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem saying a new ‘expressions of interest’ process will take place for prospective new teams to stake their claim to join Formula 1, the governing body has now opened its application window to do so. The FIA say the process for judging applications will involve “thorough due diligence”, including the “technical capabilities and resources of the applicant team, the ability of the team to raise and maintain sufficient funding to allow participation in the Championship at a competitive level and the team’s experience and human resources.” Alongside this, prospective teams will also have to show how they are able to commit to Formula 1’s sustainability target of net-zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 as another condition of entry, in order to meet the “mutual aims” of … [Read more...] about FIA officially open applications for new F1 teams and reveal new requirements

Mercedes tech chief questions theory that new regulations have led to ‘significantly closer racing’
F1’s aerodynamics overhaul failed to deliver “significantly” closer racing, according to Mercedes’ technical director, who believes cars capable of tighter battles are “very different” to the 2022 machines. The FIA rolled out the first major update to its F1 technical regulations since 2014 last year, aiming to shake up the grid and appease fans’ demand for more overtaking action. The new cars took inspiration from the 1970s and 80s for their marquee modification, utilising ground effect to stick them to the track, instead of relying on the wings for downforce. This would decrease the influence of ‘dirty air’ on racing and allow drivers to follow each other more closely. Two rounds into the season, fans couldn’t believe their luck. The new regulations were setting the stage for a thrilling 22-race title battle, after Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc went wheel-to-wheel in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. Their Red Bull and Ferrari machines were visibly more comfortable racing at … [Read more...] about Mercedes tech chief questions theory that new regulations have led to ‘significantly closer racing’
What is included on the FIA list of requirements for new Formula 1 entrants?
The FIA has announced the opening of its application process for prospective new Formula 1 teams, and they have set out their requirements for what they want from their applicants. In an accompanying document with their announcement of the opening of expressions of interest, motorsport’s governing body revealed in more detail what prospective entrants are expected to provide in the application process. Along with a total $300,000 application fee, the governing body is asking for several relevant documents surrounding the people running the team itself, including details about the company, the owner, and the request to sign a non-disclosure agreement about the application process itself while it is ongoing. The FIA say a full list of requirements will be sent to prospective teams once expressions of interest have been filed, and Liberty Media, Formula 1’s commercial rights holder, may add criteria of their own as the application process unfolds. But as for now, among the FIA’s … [Read more...] about What is included on the FIA list of requirements for new Formula 1 entrants?
AlphaTauri engineer highlights Pierre Gasly’s ‘fair’ to say problem with the new gen cars
Declaring last year’s AT03 to be “more peaky” that its predecessor, AlphaTauri’s head of trackside engineering Jonathan Eddolls believes there were times Pierre Gasly tried too hard and it “bit him”. Gasly was undoubtedly one of the stars of the 2021 Formula 1 season, the Frenchman on the podium in Azerbaijan, scoring 15 points that day towards his overall total of 110 that put him P9 in the drivers’ standings. It had pundits calling for Red Bull to give him a second chance alongside Max Verstappen. The team stood firm on their decision not to promote him again, Gasly spending 2022 with AlphaTauri. But unlike in 2022, he didn’t shine as he struggled to get a handle on his ground effect aerodynamic AT03. He scored just 23 points, suffering the biggest deficit compared to the previous season of any driver except Lewis Hamilton. PlanetF1 recommends F1 teams have ‘issues’ with ‘personal style of leadership of Mohammed Ben Sulayem’ Fernando Alonso’s message: ‘I will not … [Read more...] about AlphaTauri engineer highlights Pierre Gasly’s ‘fair’ to say problem with the new gen cars
New movies to stream this week: ‘Pamela, a Love Story’ and more
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 5 In the wake of Hulu's series "Pam and Tommy," it feels apt for Pamela Anderson to tell her story without talk show hosts interjecting jokes about her breasts. Coinciding with the release of Anderson's memoir, "Love, Pamela," the documentary "Pamela, a Love Story" strips Anderson down without sexualizing her, something that has been woefully missing from her narrative. Years of the "Baywatch" star's diaries, VHS tapes and personal photos provide unpolished snapshots of her life, leaving audiences with a rough portrait of the person behind the packaging. Director Ryan White ("Good Night Oppy") pieces together Anderson's life chronologically, though all roads seem to lead back to her ex-husband Tommy Lee. Their short-lived relationship blemishes so much of Anderson's story, which is punctuated by comments from the pair's two adult sons. It's not a happy story. Rather, it's the … [Read more...] about New movies to stream this week: ‘Pamela, a Love Story’ and more

Citroen C3 Aircross Looks Larger Than Outgoing Model In New Spy Shots
Citroen is developing the second-generation C3 Aircross. The automaker made it a standalone offering in 2017, giving it its mid-cycle refresh for the 2021 model year. The new C3 Aircross that will replace the current offering was caught by our spy photographers testing in northern Sweden, and it doesn’t look anything like the C3 on sale today. The vehicle looks much larger than the current model. It will allegedly ride on Stellantis’ CMP architecture, which was introduced in 2019 and underpins several models from the company’s various brands. The platform also underpins the Peugeot 2008, which our spy photographers also recently caught out and about .
