A spy photographer has captured images of an electric version of the redesigned 2020 Soul testing in Europe. Although the car is covered with heavy camouflage, the photos clearly show the new Soul with a charge port in the grille and no tailpipe. Kia Soul EV Smitten Ice Cream Truck Heads to 2014 SEMA Motor Show
Tweet TweetThe Kia South Korean carmaker has announced that the Soul EV Smitten Ice Cream Truck would be officially unveiled at the 2014 SEMA Motor Show, in a couple of months. The Kia Soul EV Smitten Ice Cream Truck will be publicly displayed at SEMA, the model being presented in a red and white paintjob, a roof mounted spoiler and some retro inspired wheels. Inside, the Kia Soul EV Smitten Ice Cream Truck will come with a bespoke interior, while under the hood, the model in question will still pack an electric motor, hooked to a 27 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery. The electric motor produces a good output of 109 horsepower and 284 Nm of torque, with the Smitten Ice Cream Truck to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h under 12 seconds. Kia Soul EV Tests Wireless Charging Capability
If you ask us, the new technology of wireless charging is more of a miracle than Moses parting the sea. For one thing, the former is real, and you can now have it in smartphones and cars. Even something like the Kia Soul EV, which isn’t a fancy expensive car by any stretch of the imagination, could be equipped with this system. Well, it can’t yet, but very soon we will see applications of this technology on production electric cars form Kia and Hyundai. It hasn’t been easy equipping the Kia Soul EV with fast wireless charging capability, It has been a three-prong venture by Kia America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI), Mojo Mobility, Inc. Wireless Charging System Developed on the Kia Soul EV
Marking an important step in the future of electric vehicles, the Hyundai-Kia America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) and Mojo Mobility, Inc. (Mojo) have completed a three-year project to develop a fast-charging wireless power transfer system on a test fleet of Kia Soul EVs[i]. The project, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, paves the way for the future of electric vehicles in which plugs are no longer necessary. HATCI and Mojo, a wireless technology company, worked together to develop a compact wireless charging system that is capable of transferring more than 10 kW to the vehicle for fast charging while targeting an 85 percent grid-to-vehicle efficiency. First details on the Kia Soul EV emerge
Tweet TweetIt seems that Kia wants to enter the EV segment with its own version of the Soul MPV. The zero-emission model should provide a driving range of about 200 kilometers and a 0-100 km/h sprint in around 12 seconds. Top speed will be limited at 140 km/h while pricing will start from around $35,000. However, these are initial details as Kia released no official information on the upcoming Soul EV. We expect to see the new Kia Soul EV starting 2014 with an official debut towards the end of this year. According to the company, it will be sold in Europe but also in the States and China. Kia has already introduced an electric model based on the Ray version but it is sold only to the government fleets.
