Clark, Amon, and the speculation that rules motorsport history
1967 Canadian GP, Mosport: At the start, Jim Clark, Lotus, leads teammate Graham Hill, Jackie Stewart (Tyrrell-Matra) and Dan Gurney (Eagle-Weslake) Photo by: Sutton Images In racing, the success or failure of participants is determined purely by results – but you’ll have noticed that’s never enough for the rest of us. After a race, much of the sport’s allure, intrigue and enchantment (or any other bottled fragrance) is provided by speculation over what might have been. Top 10 F1 to Indy car converts ranked
Romain Grosjean will follow in esteemed footsteps when he makes the switch to U.S. open-wheel racing this season, the well-trodden path from Formula 1 most recently traversed by Marcus Ericsson. When considering the order of the list, F1 achievement isn't factored in - it's purely down to how successfully the driver made the transition to Indy car. Making an instant impression is rewarded, and so too is longevity. On that basis, despite Fernando Alonso’s impressive debut in … [Read more...] about Top 10 F1 to Indy car converts ranked
Fierce battle for the lead in first hour Hankook 24H Dubai
At 14.00 hrs local time, His Highness Sheikh Juma al Maktoum waved the national flag of the United Arab Emirates to send off the field of 89 cars for this year’s tenth running of the Hankook 24H DUBAI. After some incidents in yesterday’s practice and qualifying sessions, certain cars were damaged beyond repair and were sidelined from the race, but the number of 89 cars taking the start still marks a record field for the first international endurance race of the new calendar year. His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Ben Sulayem, vice-president of the FIA and president of the Automobile and Touring Club of the United Arab Emirates (ATCUAE) also attended the start of the race. Oil on track ! The first ‘code 60’, a neutralisation in which no driver is allowed to go faster than an average of 60 km/h, was called during the first lap of racing after the Nova Race Ginetta (#167, Vescovi/Ferri/Gentili/Fletcher) had spread oil on the circuit before coming to a halt on the track.
