Surprise early unveiling for new Corvette C8.R
The C8.R had been expected to be launched during next weekend's IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season finale at Petit Le Mans, but was instead unveiled during the new Corvette Stingray launch at the Kennedy Space Centre. It was also confirmed that the GT Le Mans contender will make its competitive debut at next January's Rolex 24 at Daytona, the opening round of the 2020 IMSA season. Technical details, including what engine will power the car, are yet to be made official. “The C8.R is much more than just a race-tuned version of the 2020 Corvette Stingray," said Jim Campbell, Chevrolet US vice president of performance and motorsports. COMMERCE, Ga. – Jack Beckman secured the No. 1 qualifier in Funny Car on Saturday in front of a sold out crowd at Atlanta Dragway during the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals. Doug Kalitta (Top Fuel), Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) and Angelle Sampey (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also were No. 1 qualifiers in their respective categories at the seventh event of 24 on the 2016 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule. Funny Car Beckman, a two-time Atlanta winner, used his track record 3.939-second run at 326.32 mph from Friday night in his Infinite Hero Foundation Dodge Charger R/T to secure his fourth No. 1 of the season and 19th of his career. Williams sponsorship court case thrown out after lawyer barred from practicing law
A US court case against Williams over allegedly failing to fill sponsorship requirements from ROKiT has been thrown out after the lead prosecutor was ineligible to practise law in the area the case was filed in. ROKiT, a telecommunications company, was the title sponsor of the Williams team for the 2019 season but after a COVID-enforced delay to the 2020 campaign, the Grove outfit terminated their deal with the sponsor.
