US charges 4 key suspects in killing of Haiti’s president
MIAMI (AP) — Four key suspects in the killing of Haiti's president appeared for the first time in U.S. federal court Wednesday to face accusations that they plotted and participated in his assassination, a day after they were transferred to the United States for prosecution. Haitian-Americans James Solages, Joseph Vincent and Christian Emmanuel Sanon and Colombian citizen Germán Rivera García looked calm as they entered a federal court in Miami wearing beige prisoner uniforms with their hands and ankles shackled. They did not speak at the hearing, except to petition for a public defender when Judged Alicia Otazo-Reyes asked each of them if they can afford to pay an attorney. “I would appreciate it if the court would appoint a counselor," said Solages, the second of the defendants called by the judge to listen to the charges. He, like each of them, answered “no” when the judge asked if they have work, savings or property. The judge appointed a different attorney for each of … [Read more...] about US charges 4 key suspects in killing of Haiti’s president

Argentina Moto3: Martin leads as several Mahindra riders fall
Listen to this article Earlier this weekend, Martin had showed promising pace in the Aspar Mahindra, finishing ninth quickest in FP3. However, in qualifying, he couldn’t keep up with the leading pack, setting a time that was 1.3 seconds off pole-sitter Brad Binder. The Spanish rued the gearbox issue for the lack of pace in qualifying. "I was hoping for a good qualifying but we were denied by a problem with the gearbox," he said. "And I lost three or four tenths on my best lap. Without that we could have been starting from eleventh or twelfth, which would have been an acceptable position." Alexis Masbou was the highest classified non-factory Mahindra rider in 22nd place, with his Peugeot Saxoprint teammate John McPhee finishing in 28th position. Meanwhile, Qatar podium finisher Francesco Bagnaia was involved in a multi-bike pile up at turn 2, leaving the Italian driver a disappointing 24th with a time of 1m51.408s. Argentina Moto3: Pawi stuns field with crushing win on drying track
Listen to this article Despite the track being wet, a few dry patches and no rain meant the entire field kicked off the race on slicks with the exception of Livio Loi. Although he was 10th on the grid, Loi understandably rocketed through the field at the start. However, he could only settle into second as Pawi had an even better launch, and lapped several seconds quicker despite running on dry tyres. Impressively, the Malaysian rookie built a lead of 20 seconds over the course of just eight laps. As the track dried out, most of Pawi's advantage in pace disappeared, but he continued to stretch his advantage. Loi on the other hand quickly dropped down the field, eventually settling for 16th. Estrella Galicia rider Jorge Navarro and another Malaysian Adam Norrodin separated themselves from from the rest of the chasing pack at the halfway point onwards. Norrodin waited for his chance to overtake until the final lap, but lost control at the very final turn of the … [Read more...] about Argentina Moto3: Pawi stuns field with crushing win on drying track
Argentina Moto3: McPhee, Martin ensure double points
Listen to this article On a wet, but drying Termas de Rio Hondo track, most riders opted for slicks, hoping the conditions to improve. McPhee, who qualified well down the order in 28th place, rapidly gained positions, making a last gasp pass on Martin to finish in seventh place. The Spanish held on to his eighth position despite losing as many seconds at the death end of the race, ensuring a double top-10 result for Mahindra. The Aspar rider was as high as fifth in the opening stages after having started 19th in the race battling with the top half for podium before falling back. Martin rued the continuing gearbox issue which hampered him during the race. "We have had problems all weekend with the gearbox and the race was no different, we were struggling from the fifth lap and it has prevented us from finishing even higher up," he said. At the front, Malaysia’s Khairul Idham Pawi took a dominant victory in only his third Moto3 race, with Estrella Galicia’s Jorge … [Read more...] about Argentina Moto3: McPhee, Martin ensure double points
Austin Moto3: Oettl tops rain-affected qualifying
Listen to this article Oettl, contesting his fourth full season in Moto3, posted the benchmark in the opening minutes of the session and could subsequently sit back and relax as raindrops did the rest of the job. With damp patches on the track surface at the start of the session after rain had arrived late during Moto2 practice, a number riders opted to do their recon laps on wets. But the track was more than good enough for the dry compound right away, Oettl setting the early pace on slicks. The German continued to gradually improve with each lap, holding on to the top spot by halfway into the session, at which point the rain suddenly returned. As the rain flags made their appearance, Estrella Galicia's practice pacesetter Jorge Navarro was among the last riders to improve, moving to within six tenths of Oettl and just 0.011s ahead of fellow Honda rider Enea Bastianini. Just as quickly as the rain arrived, it was gone again. With 10 minutes to go, riders began to … [Read more...] about Austin Moto3: Oettl tops rain-affected qualifying
