Multiple F1 race winner Jean-Pierre Jabouille passes away aged 80

February 2, 2023 by www.planetf1.com Leave a Comment

Jean-Pierre Jabouille, former Renault driver and the first Formula 1 driver to win with turbocharged power, died aged 80 on Thursday, according to multiple reports in French media. The Frenchman won two races in his time as a Formula 1 driver, winning his home race in Dijon in 1979 for Renault to become the first driver to win with a turbo engine in the sport’s history. Jabouille developed a reputation for being one of Formula 1’s unluckiest drivers during his time in the sport, only being a classified finisher in 10 of his 49 race starts – winning two races and taking six pole positions, becoming Renault’s first ever race winner in Formula 1 in the process. The Parisian racer spent several years in Formula 2 in the 1970s, combining that with sportscar racing as he looked for a way into Formula 1, winning the F2 title in 1976 before being given a factory drive with Renault in the second half of the following year. In the round-up: Formula One’s alcohol sponsor says the sport could rival the Champions League football tournament. Links Heineken vows to refresh the profile of Formula One (The Telegraph) "Can we make F1 as big as the Champions League? Honestly, I think so." Vettel would have Ricciardo as teammate again (Motorsport) "I don't mind him, I like him, I think he's a strong guy and obviously he had a good season in 14. Last year and this year it's a bit difficult always to judge because you don't know what's going on internally, but, from what I know, he's a good guy." Fernando Alonso talks McLaren, missed opportunities and life after F1 (ESPN) "When I came back to Renault it was my choice - I had the possibility to go to Red Bull. New movies to stream this week: ‘Pamela, a Love Story’ and more

This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 5 In the wake of Hulu's series "Pam and Tommy," it feels apt for Pamela Anderson to tell her story without talk show hosts interjecting jokes about her breasts. Coinciding with the release of Anderson's memoir, "Love, Pamela," the documentary "Pamela, a Love Story" strips Anderson down without sexualizing her, something that has been woefully missing from her narrative. Years of the "Baywatch" star's diaries, VHS tapes and personal photos provide unpolished snapshots of her life, leaving audiences with a rough portrait of the person behind the packaging. Director Ryan White ("Good Night Oppy") pieces together Anderson's life chronologically, though all roads seem to lead back to her ex-husband Tommy Lee. Their short-lived relationship blemishes so much of Anderson's story, which is punctuated by comments from the pair's two adult sons. It's not a happy story. Rather, it's the … [Read more...] about New movies to stream this week: ‘Pamela, a Love Story’ and more

Kick off Black History Month in Houston with this series of acclaimed indies

Autumn Johnson was an intern at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston when she stumbled, last summer, upon a largely unsung classic of Black independent cinema. Alma's Rainbow , written and directed by Ayoka Chenzira, originally opened in 1994, and had largely fallen out of the limelight until last year, when a new 4K DCP restoration began making the art-house and rep theater rounds. “I liked the film, but what really impressed me was the director’s background,” says the San Antonio-born Johnson, a recent University of Houston graduate. “I was like, 'I’ve never heard of her before. Like, how has she not been on my radar?'” Learning about Alma's Rainbow inspired Johnson to look for other indie films made by women of color. “I really did a lot of research one day in the office,” she says. “And I sent a little pitch email to Marian [Luntz, MFAH’s film curator] saying, ‘I don’t really see room for this film in the coming months, but I would love to see it featured for something … [Read more...] about Kick off Black History Month in Houston with this series of acclaimed indies

(AP) — A New Jersey borough councilwoman was found shot to death in an SUV outside of her home in a quiet townhouse complex, where police Thursday searched the area without making an arrest. Sayreville Councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour, 30, was found around 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Middlesex County prosecutor’s office. She had been shot multiple times and died at the scene. Dwumfour, a Republican, was elected to her first three-year term in 2021, when she ousted a Democratic incumbent. Colleagues recalled her as a soft-spoken devout Christian who could maintain her composure in contentious situations. “She was a 30-year-old woman. To have this happen in such a tragic way, I mean, our hearts are just broken and … [Read more...] about NJ councilwoman found shot to death outside of her home
