Listen to this article The Italian manufacturer will likely shake up its line-up for the 2023 season, with Jack Miller expected to lose his place at the factory squad. French Grand Prix winner Enea Bastianini and Pramac’s Jorge Martin are the favourites to get the Australian’s seat, with the former strengthening his claim after taking his third win of the season last weekend at Le Mans on his 2021-spec Gresini-run Ducati. Martin’s manager was seen at Le Mans speaking with Honda, but Ducati’s sporting director Ciabatti is convinced no matter who out of Bastianini and Martin gets the factory seat will "listen to a Ducati proposal before going anywhere else". "I think any rider who is riding a Ducati today will think twice before going anywhere else," Ciabatti told Motorsport.com at Le Mans when asked if Ducati was worried it could alienate Martin or Bastianini with its factory line-up decision. "Not only because the bike is very competitive, I think the overall … [Read more...] about Ducati riders “will think twice” about joining MotoGP rivals

McLaren team boss hints at long-term Ricciardo stay
Despite reports linking several IndyCar drivers to his McLaren seat, Andreas Seidl has hinted McLaren want a long-term future with Daniel Ricciardo – one that could run into 2024. McLaren are expected to put Colton Herta in their car later this season for an FP1 run, the Woking team giving the American a trial that has pundits suggesting a Formula 1 drive could be in his future. There is also Pato O’Ward waiting in the wings, the Mexican having tested the MCL35M at last season’s end-of-season outing in Abu Dhabi. With both said to be options for McLaren, the Woking team will have to make a choice down the line – continue with Ricciardo or put a rookie in the car alongside Lando Norris. While Norris’ seat is guaranteed, the Briton having signed until the end of the 2025 season, Ricciardo’s is not . He has struggled to match Norris’ form, the Australian having scored 11 points to his team-mate’s 35, and there have been whispers it is just a matter of time before McLaren … [Read more...] about McLaren team boss hints at long-term Ricciardo stay

New this week: Dinosaurs, Def Leppard and ‘The Responder’
Here’s a collection curated by The Associated Press’ entertainment journalists of what’s arriving on TV, streaming services and music platforms this week. MOVIES — In the satirical comedy “Emergency,” college seniors Kunle (Donald Elise Watkins) and Sean (RJ Cyler) set out for an epic night of partying only to return home to a shocking scene: Their door is ajar and a woman is passed out on their floor. The men are Black and the woman is white and they know that calling the police is not a straightforward proposition. The film, directed by Carey Williams and written by KD Dávila, was one of the breakouts of the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year for its penetrating look at racial dynamics in a heightened, comedic setting. It’s currently playing in theaters for a limited time before streaming on Amazon Prime Video starting Friday, May 27. — “Navalny,” the riveting documentary about Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been making the rounds in theaters and on CNN, … [Read more...] about New this week: Dinosaurs, Def Leppard and ‘The Responder’
Spanish GP: Leclerc tops FP2 as Mercedes shows promise
Listen to this article The Ferrari driver and pre-event championship leader picked up his form from FP1 by also running to the top in the second of the hour-long Friday practice sessions at Barcelona. Leclerc ran clear on his soft Pirelli C3 tyre qualifying run to 1m19.670s. That found 0.16s over his benchmark effort from FP1, plus closed to within 0.6s of Hamilton's pre-season test-topping time at the venue in late February set on the fastest C5 compound rubber. That moved Leclerc 0.117s clear of Russell, the Mercedes driver having set the pace during FP2 last time out for the inaugural Miami Grand Prix. Hamilton was a late adopter of the soft tyre and ran particularly well in the final part of the second sector to land the third-fastest effort - albeit a further 0.09s shy of his teammate. Meanwhile, ahead of his home race, Carlos Sainz guided the second Ferrari F1-75 to fourth ahead of defending champion Max Verstappen . Alexander Albon, Mick Schumacher … [Read more...] about Spanish GP: Leclerc tops FP2 as Mercedes shows promise
WRC Portugal: Loeb overhauls Evans to hold slender lead
Listen to this article The nine-time world champion, returning to the championship with M-Sport, produced a blistering performance to win Stage 4 and shoot from seventh overall into a 0.5s lead over Toyota's Evans. Evans had emerged as the man to beat on Friday morning after winning the first two stages to leapfrog Thierry Neuville , who started the day as the rally leader after winning Thursday night's super special. Despite an unfavourable road position, Hyundai's Neuville ended the loop in third, 3.3s adrift and ahead of teammate Ott Tanak , while championship leader Kalle Rovanpera coped admirably with opening the road to end the morning fifth. Eight-time champion Sebastien Ogier was out of sorts in his GR Yaris, and could only complete the loop in sixth, 6.7s shy of Loeb. The first gravel stage of the 2022 season belonged to Evans who produced a blistering pace on the Lousa 12.03km test. After topping Thursday's shakedown on gravel, he was again … [Read more...] about WRC Portugal: Loeb overhauls Evans to hold slender lead
Evans: Portugal road position no “automatic ticket” to result
Listen to this article The championship runner-up from the past two seasons has endured a slow start to the 2022 season highlighted by retirements in Monte Carlo and Sweden. Evans picked up much needed first solid points haul of the season finishing fifth in Rally Croatia, but remains 59 points adrift of championship leader and Toyota team-mate Kalle Rovanpera. Virtue of his difficult start to the year, the Welshman will receive a significant road position advantage heading into this weekend’s first gravel rally of the season in Portugal this weekend. Last year’s Portugal winner will start ninth on the road when the rally begins on Thursday and will be aiming to benefit from much cleaner road conditions compared to his rivals. Despite the advantage, he says road position alone won’t be enough to secure a strong result. “As with a lot of rallies this year, it’s difficult to know how we will fare against the competition in our first event on gravel with the Rally1 cars, … [Read more...] about Evans: Portugal road position no “automatic ticket” to result
1982 Canadian GP: Paletti killed in startline crash – F1 Fanatic
The turbulent 1982 season took another tragic turn 30 years ago today. Young Italian racer Riccardo Paletti, making only his second F1 start, was killed when he crashed into Didier Pironi’s Ferrari at the start of the Canadian Grand Prix. The recovery effort was hampered by an inferno which erupted moments after the crash. Paletti later succumbed to the injuries he suffered in the initial impact. After the race was restarted, Nelson Piquet scored the first win for BMW’s turbo engine. But the second F1 fatality in consecutive months plunged the sport deeper into gloom. “It won’t be the same without Gilles” The circuit on the Isle Notre Dame was held the Canadian Grand Prix for the fifth time in 1982. But it was missing the crowd’s local hero. Following the death of Gilles Villeneuve at Zolder a few weeks earlier, the track had been renamed after him. Race organiser Normand Legault did not attempt to disguise the effect Villeneuve’s death would have on the race. “Let’s … [Read more...] about 1982 Canadian GP: Paletti killed in startline crash – F1 Fanatic
US helps Isan fight gangs with B12.7m
The United States' International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Office (US INL) has donated over US$370,000 (12.7 million baht) worth of equipment to the police to support efforts to combat transnational crime in the Northeast. The US embassy and Provincial Police Region 4 (PPR4) held a press conference and ceremony yesterday to announce the donation which the US hopes will be used to tighten security along 670 kilometres of the Mekong River. Gregory Shaw, who heads the INL bureau at the US embassy in Bangkok, said now is the time to cooperate as criminal trafficking networks have begun exploiting routes in Isan where security has traditionally been lighter on the ground. "Criminals have increased efforts to exploit the Isan region and Mekong River to circumvent border crossing to illegally traffic people, illicit wildlife products, weapons and dangerous illegal drugs into Thailand," he said. He said the situation continued to worsen last year when nearly 100 million … [Read more...] about US helps Isan fight gangs with B12.7m
