U.S. Rep. Jahana Hayes came very close to losing her reelection bid for Connecticut’s 5th Congressional District against Republican challenger George Logan. Ultimately, the race came down to cross-endorsements. Hayes received 123,794 votes on the Democratic ballot line, 48.82 percent of the total, according to unofficial data from the Secretary of the State’s office. Logan garnered 123,299 votes on the Republican ballot line, 48.63 percent. That’s a difference of only 495 votes in Hayes’ favor. But both Logan and Hayes were cross-endorsed, Logan by the Independent Party, and Hayes by the Working Families Party. It was those cross-endorsements that made the difference. Logan garnered 2,492 votes on the Independent Party line, far above the 495 votes needed to eclipse Hayes. But Working Families Party votes added 3,982 to Hayes’ total, putting her well over the top. When asked if the Working Families Party won reelection for U.S. Rep. Jahana Hayes, Roger Senserrich, … [Read more...] about How a minor party helped the CT congressional delegation stay Democratic
Members of Connecticut’s congressional delegation on Friday lined up behind U.S. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries’ bid to become the next Democratic leader in the House of Representatives, following the decision by Speaker Nancy Pelosi to step down after leading the caucus for nearly two decades. Jeffries, a 52-year-old from New York, is widely seen as the frontrunner to succeed Pelosi as Democratic leader after the party narrowly lost control of the House during this year’s midterm elections. If elected, he would be the first Black lawmaker to lead either party in Congress. All five incumbents in Connecticut won re-election this month, keeping the state’s delegation entirely in the hands of Democrats for a record eighth-straight election . Several members of the state’s delegation are known to be close to Pelosi, particularly 3rd District Rep. Rosa DeLauro, who thanked the Speaker in a tweet Thursday , calling her a “undeniable force, and to me, a dear friend, confidant, and … [Read more...] about Nancy Pelosi’s allies in Connecticut support Hakeem Jeffries’ bid to become next Democratic leader
The Houston Rockets turned back the clock on Friday night as they hosted the Indiana Pacers at the Toyota Center. The organization honored legendary big man Elvin Hayes with a jersey retirement ceremony at halftime, and in conjunction with celebrating Hayes , the Rockets opted to don some alternate threads. Houston debuted its throwback jerseys for the 2022-23 season, which harken back to the organization's first four seasons that it played in San Diego. Throwback jerseys can have a hit-or-miss nature, but these seem to be done in taste and style. Check out Houston's Friday-night attire below. Twitter — HoustonRockets Twitter Twitter — HoustonRockets Twitter Hayes's No. 44 jersey was raised to the rafters of the Toyota Center during halftime of Friday's contest, and it's not hard to see why Houston bestowed him with such an honor. Hayes played a major role in bringing the Rockets toward respectability at the end of the 1960s and early 1970s, and his … [Read more...] about Houston Rockets honor San Diego roots with throwback jerseys

Some viewers, including cancer patients whose appetites had been suppressed by chemo, told Groce that watching her cook made them feel hungry again. "It really touched me," Groce said, adding that "it feel like I had known these people forever." It all abruptly ended a year ago, when Groce got kicked out of her account. Someone had posted abusive content from her page, an email from Facebook said. When she tried to report the action as an error, Facebook showed her the offending post: A video of two children being forced to perform a sex act. Groce said she cried for hours. Why did the site show her something so horrible with no warning? And how, without access to her personal account, could she recover the business … [Read more...] about The long, lonely wait to recover a hacked Facebook account

Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 81 Amid much hoopla, Dwight Howard was welcomed to the Rockets' "Legacy of Bigs" nearly three years ago, joining the group of franchise titans who dominated the paint. With Howard now gone from Houston after what could charitably be described as a disappointing three-season run in red and white, the "Legacy of Bigs" apparently is now no longer a selling a point.
