When the Jaguar F-Type made its debut in 2012, it was met with all the scrutiny you’d expect for the successor of one of the most iconic vehicles of all time. Following Jaguar’s E-Type roadster could have easily been a capital F failure, but instead Jaguar delivered a solid winner that has grown into 24 different variants, from a V-6 supercharged roadster to a 575-horsepower coupe capable of hitting 200 mph. The latest F-Type variant is an entry model powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. We had a brief drive of this 2018 Jaguar F-Type in R-Dynamic, and these are the key takeaways. 1. All New-ish Engine Although billed as all-new, the F-Type’s 1997cc direct-injection four-cylinder is a derivative of the Ingenium-branded engines used in Jaguar’s F-Pace SUV and XE sedan. What is new is that the inline-four’s exhaust manifold is integrated into the cylinder head, which helps improve fuel economy and reduces emissions due to quicker … [Read more...] about Eight Things To Know: 2018 Jaguar F-Type R-Dynamic

In case the 2014 Jaguar F-Type roadster is not quite shapely enough for you, here is a glimpse of the upcoming coupe version. Caught lapping the Nürburgring by our spy photographers, this coupe prototype looks close to production-ready. The last time we spied an F-Type coupe testing, it was on public roads. The fact that Jaguar is now lapping this prototype at the Nürburgring could suggest that engineers are putting the final touches on the coupe’s handling prowess, especially given the additional structural rigidity that comes with a fixed-roof compared to a droptop. The 2014 Jaguar F-Type roadster went on sale in the U.S. this year and starts at $69,895 for the model equipped with the 3.0-liter 340-hp supercharged V-6. Other models include the F-Type S with a 380-hp version of the 3.0-liter V-6, and the F-Type V-8 S with a 495-hp 5.0-liter V-8. All three engine options are paired with a ZF eight-speed automatic. The coupe model should feature these same powertrains, … [Read more...] about 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe Caught Testing at the Nurburgring
Jaguar is working on a fixed-roof version of the F-Type roadster, but now it looks like it's also developing a high-performance model for said coupe. Captured sharpening its claws at the Nürburgring, this F-Type Coupe prototype could very well be an R-S or even a more track-ready R-S GT variant. Our biggest clue suggesting the latter are its massive brake rotors with bright-yellow calipers – similar pieces are also found on the recently introduced XKR-S GT. This would make sense, since a report in May said that Jaguar is looking to create a full line of R-S GT models in a similar fashion as the Mercedes-Benz AMG Black Series. Missing from this prototype, though, are the telltale aero add-ons we saw on the XKR-S GT – go-faster bits like the latter's front fascia winglets and rear wing, though this model is obviously still being developed. Regardless of what this new grippier, quicker kitty is called, we say "Yes, please." … [Read more...] about Are you the Jaguar F-Type Coupe R-S?
This is far from an ideal setting for Jaguar. They've been playing hide-n-seek with car enthusiasts for months, finally letting loose an 'aesthetically camouflaged' F-type at Goodwood this year and now, just one week before the official unveiling of the F-Type roadster, a leaked image spoiled Jaguar's party. That said, Jaguar has nothing to worry about - the F-Type roadster looks drop-dead gorgeous. The F-Type roadster, to give you a bit of history, was first announced at the New York motor show. Jaguar Cars Global Brand Director Adrian Hallmark, who made the announcement said the company was extremely thrilled by the response the C-X16 concept had received and that it would only be appropriate that a thoroughbred, on the same lines as Jag's legendary C, D and E-Type sports cars, be produced. As you can see in this sole image, Jag has done a good job. While it doesn't look entirely bonkers - no Jag ever does anyway - it's got all the right aspirational elements. Those split intake … [Read more...] about Unveiled! Jaguar F-Type roadster!
The Jaguar F-type is among our favorite getaway roadsters, what with its brusque exhaust note and rorty disposition. But when it comes to taking things along for the ride, its cargo area is a bit meager: About as useful as a carrying case for, well, an actual jaguar. To right this injustice, Jaguar enlisted the assistance of French valise-specialist Moynat, which thoughtfully dedicated 900 man-hours to create a one-off, wooden trunk custom-fitted to the Jag’s luggage compartment. The trunk, which resembles a large guitar case, is covered in cowhide, bound by straps, and finished inside with the brand’s orange lining that most closely matches the F-type’s own Firesand metallic hue. Jaguar claims that the luggage maker was able to slip an electric scooter inside the trunk, as well, but until we have photographic proof, it seems to us a load of codswallop.First Drive: 2015 Jaguar F-type R CoupeInstrumented Test: 2014 Jaguar F-type V-8 SInstrumented Test: 2014 Jaguar … [Read more...] about No Junk in This Trunk: Moynat Unveils Bespoke Fitted Bag for Jaguar F-type Ragtop
Holy mancats. Holy. Mancats. HOLY MANCATS. This, friends, is the thing of which all automotive dreams are made, the manifestation of every vision of pure, rolling sex you’ve ever had, digitized for your ocular pleasure. We didn’t think there would ever be an F-type we’d lust for more than the beautiful coupe, but this one—well, decisions like that are silly. We’ll take one of each, of course. Follow Car and Driver on FacebookFirst things, uh, in the second paragraph: There’s no indication from anyone, anywhere that Jaguar intends to build this thing. And if it did, Jaguar would probably sell, like, 20 of them, and it probably wouldn’t so much as sniff American air, similar to the gorgeous XF Sportbrake offered in Europe.F-type Coupe Photos, Info: “Shall We Shag Now, or Shall We Shag Later?”Full Test: Stunning 2014 Jaguar F-type V-8 S RoadsterPhotos, Info: One-off F-type–based Project 7 Pseudo RacerFor now, just imagine the F … [Read more...] about WARNING: These Jaguar F-type Shooting Brake Renderings May Stop Your Heart
From the August 2015 issue Sales are not always the ultimate arbiter of a brand’s outlook, at least not in the same way that failure is a certainty in their absence. Jaguar’s numbers, in free fall when Ford dumped the brand in early 2008 on India’s Tata Motors, seem to have plateaued. It sold 15,773 cars in the U.S. in 2014, just 90 more than during Dearborn’s final full year of ownership. Luxury-segment leader Mercedes-Benz did about 23 times Jaguar’s volume last year; Porsche moved as many Cayennes as Jaguar did of its entire product line. Yet there is reason for optimism in Coventry. With the XE sedan coming next year and the F-Pace crossover also on the way, Jaguar’s sales trajectory can only be pointed upward. Our esteem, however, is less informed by popularity than it is by personality and performance. When we road-tested the Jaguar F-type in 2013, we drank in its siren song, an astoundingly brazen exhaust note that simply … [Read more...] about 2014 Jaguar F-type V-8 S Roadster
Our ultimate fantasy—no, not that one, the car-related one—involves a pile of money appearing out of thin air alongside directions to the nearest exotic car dealership. But what would we buy? The choices are many, but as soon as staffers laid eyes on the 2015 Jaguar F-type coupe, many minds were made up. At once gorgeous and semi-attainable, the F-type combines a heart-twisting exhaust note (with any of its three available engines) with athletic moves and fine luxury in a single lust-inducing package. As Jaguar’s own marketing department extolls, It’s Good to Be Bad, and this is how naughty we’d be at the Jaguar dealership: MODEL: Jaguar F-type R Coupe (base price: $99,925)The F-type coupe can be had with one of two supercharged V-6s or a supercharged V-8. Guess which one we’d pick? Yep, the blown 5.0-liter V-8, which in the F-type coupe comes paired exclusively with the high-performance R trim level. The R part is important, because it means the … [Read more...] about How We’d Spec It, Good to Be Bad Edition: 2015 Jaguar F-type R Coupe
From the November 2014 Issue of Car and Driver “No! It is not a car for a dentist’s wife!” came my Brit companion’s incredulous response. I was sitting lakeside several years back, having a few beers with some visiting Englishmen, when the topic of the Jaguar XK came up. I might have been overstating my position on the car (thank you, beer), but the thrust of the whole dentist’s-wife contention was that in the States, people don’t really view the Jag XK as a direct competitor for the Porsche 911. Mercedes-Benz SL, sure. But 911? Nope. This did not sit well with the crowd, and it took a transplanted Brit, who also happened to once work for Jaguar in the U.K., to confirm our analysis before things quieted down. The group then began discussing how it was that English sausages were more beautifully formed than German ones, a topic about which we thankfully have no opinion. Well, chaps, Jaguar has finally redeemed itself and upheld … [Read more...] about 2015 Jaguar F-type R Coupe
I know the experience is inauthentic. I know the sounds are manufactured somewhat. I know the marketing telling me about this car’s “soul” and “passion” is wholly disingenuous.I don’t particularly care. The 2016 Jaguar F-Type R AWD is one of those genetically engineered chocolate-flavored bananas. It’s a trick; I get it. I just don’t care. Perhaps the Jaguar’s greatest trick is reminding you that your experience in the car is less organic than a Twinkie, then making you completely forget it.
