Second-lowest ever rating for Singapore Grand Prix · RaceFans
The Singapore Grand Prix was the third race in a row rated less than six out of ten by F1 Fanatic readers. As Sebastian Vettel romped off to an emphatic win what action there was took place some way behind his Red Bull. The only Singapore Grand Prix to receive a lower rating than this one was the 2009 race. And not for the first time this year much of the discussion centered on events after the chequered flag had fell, particularly the reprimands handed down after Mark Webber’s ‘taxi ride’ on Fernando Alonso’s car. Here’s what F1 Fanatic readers had to say about the Singapore Grand Prix, including views from three people who were in the grandstands. That being said, outside of the battles near the end of the race, there really wasn?t a lot going on. @PJTierney Vettel blew away the field by … [Read more...] about Second-lowest ever rating for Singapore Grand Prix · RaceFans
1992 Hungarian Grand Prix: Nigel Mansell finally wins F1 title – F1 Fanatic
Nigel Mansell’s long journey to championship success finally reached its end 20 years ago today. Mansell had dominated the 1992 championship in his Williams-Renault FW14B . By finishing second in the Hungarian Grand Prix he won the world championship at an earlier point in the season than any driver in F1 history. But even as Mansell celebrated his crown the machinations that would see him leave the sport without defending his title had already begun. Fuel row Mansell went into the 11th race of the 1992 season on the back of an unprecedented streak of success. He had begun the year with five consecutive victories – a new record – and arrived at the Hungaroring having completed a further hat-trick of wins at Magny-Cours, Silverstone and Hockenheim. He led team mate Riccardo Patrese in the championship by 46 points and victory in Hungary would seal the title. Mansell had already equalled Ayrton Senna’s record for most wins in a season. Senna looked certain to lose his … [Read more...] about 1992 Hungarian Grand Prix: Nigel Mansell finally wins F1 title – F1 Fanatic

Lewis Hamilton to score a hat trick? (2008 Hungarian Grand Prix preview)
McLaren have nosed ahead of the opposition in the past few weeks with Lewis Hamilton scoring a pair of emphatic wins at Silverstone and Hockenheim. Testing last week suggested the team will keep their advantage at the next round in Hungary. Can Hamilton become the first man in two years to win three successive races? After the German Grand Prix it was clear several particular innovations had handed the initiative to McLaren . Building a fast car is only half the job, however, and they will need to capitalise on their speed advantage. The Hungaroring is a favourable track for that, however, as it is tight, aerodynamically critical, and overtaking is very difficult. Pole position is critical – hence the contretemps between the two McLaren drivers here last year the team will not want reminding of. The team looked strong again in the four-day test at Jerez last week. Heikki Kovalainen was the fastest driver over the four days as McLaren became the first team to try their own … [Read more...] about Lewis Hamilton to score a hat trick? Top ten: Longest Formula One grand prix circuits · RaceFans
By the standards of past circuits, the Formula One tracks of the 21st century are a homogeneous bunch. The creeping Tilke-isation of the calendar means race tracks increasingly resemble each other in length, corner numbers and character . Of F1’s current venues, all but Monaco and Spa are between 4.3km and 5.9km long. Almost all of them have between 15 and 20 corners, minimal elevation change, similar average speeds, and almost entirely made up of slow corners. But it was not always this way. For the first few decades of the world championship, before the FIA’s notion of maximum circuit length had been born, Grand Prix’s regularly took place on circuits far longer than we see today. Given the costs involved in building long race tracks, and the difficulties of properly managing them, it is perhaps understandable that the FIA now recommends new circuits to be no longer than 7km. And it also means that the following ten circuits are unlikely to be surpassed as the longest in F1 … [Read more...] about Top ten: Longest Formula One grand prix circuits · RaceFans
