Cruising is cool again. I think many of us forget how formative our teenage years are, especially when it comes to the automobile. Yes, kids today aren’t investing in cars and driver licenses like they used to, but that doesn’t mean the car is any less important to growing up. It allows teenagers freedom they never before experienced, allowing them to learn about the world and themselves away from the watchful eye of parents. We cruise because we can, aimlessly driving because a car is a better place to hang than at home. And Cruise, a new movie from the writer of The Wrestler and The Founder, looks to capture that youthful joy of late 1980s car culture. Cruise stars Spencer Boldman as Gio Fortunato, an Italian kid from Queens who loves cars and girls. That all changes when he meets Jessica, played by Emily Ratajkowski. She’s a girl from Long Island who likes to find thrills on the wrong side of the tracks. The synopsis is thin, but it appears … [Read more...] about Cruise Movie Trailer Is Filled With Awesome ’80s Cars
Even more protection for America’s future president. Details around the armored vehicles used to transport the President of the United States are always, perhaps unsurprisingly, few and far between. But our spy shooters stake out the General Motors proving ground in Milford, Michigan, and spotted what appears to be the next version of the heavily armored vehicle testing – just in time for election season. Though it looks like a Cadillac sedan, the presidential limo – known informally as “The Beast” – is really a hardened, toughened heavy-duty truck platform. The new model spotted testing here is, as with today’s limo, a huge sedan, with extremely high ground clearance and an enormous body. That size is necessary, in part, to accommodate significant levels of armoring and bomb-proof bodywork; the giant truck-like wheels and tires are likely required to support the massive machine’s entire weight. Get A Better Grasp On … [Read more...] about “The Beast” presidential limo spied testing at GM proving grounds
Oates won't be able to hide from private eyes while behind the wheel of this little beast. Emory Motorsports specializes in tuning the classic Porsche 356, and rockstar John Oates of 1980s iconic band Hall & Oates now owns one of the company's special machines. Oates asked the firm for the perfect 356, and Emory delivered. Gallery: John Oates Porsche 356 Emory Motorsports 64 Photos Oates' new car started life as a 1960 356B Cabriolet. Emory fitted a removable hardtop that gave the car an interesting flat-top silhouette, rather than the vehicle's usual graceful silhouette for the coupe's rear deck. The donor machine had a damaged front end, so the build team incorporated the smoother shape of the 356A at the nose and windshield frame. The 356A's smaller bumpers also added a sleeker look.
