Listen to this article Alonso returned to F1 with Alpine in 2021 after taking a two-year break to race in the FIA World Endurance Championship, the Indy 500 and the Dakar Rally. Alonso's third stint at the Enstone outfit got off to a slow start but once he got back up to speed the Spaniard re-found his old form, frequently suggesting he was driving at his best-ever level in 2022, a season which was blighted by reliability issues. For 2023, Alonso jumped ship to Aston Martin, which struggled last year to finish seventh in the constructors' championship. While the team is a step down from Alpine in the short term, the Lawrence Stroll-led outfit managed to convince Alonso with its long-term project, answering to Alonso's desire to stay in F1 for years to come. And the 41-year-old says he wouldn't have accepted to continue if he didn't think he was still capable of performing at his peak, or if he wasn't convinced that Aston can close the gap while he is still around. … [Read more...] about Alonso “wouldn’t accept” continuing in F1 at less than 100%

G-Power Hurricane RS BMW M5 Touring hits 224 mph [video]
BMW tuning specialist G-Power first graced us with their record setting M5 Hurricane RS back in late 2008. After recording a speed of 367.6 km/h (228.4 mph), the 750 bhp (760 PS / 559 kW) sedan officially took the "fastest sedan in the world" record from the Mercedes CLS-Class based V12 BRABUS Rocket . Fortunately for G-Power, the vehicle to knock the HURRICANE RS off it's record setting throne is their very own M5 Hurricane RR which managed a top speed of 372 km/h (231 mph). Fred Vasseur didn’t share his Ferrari plans with Audi until after he’d signed
Fred Vasseur did not speak with Audi before signing with Ferrari, but once he did, he was told “you couldn’t refuse an offer from Ferrari”. Within moments of Mattia Binotto handing in his resignation in November there were rumours claiming it was only a matter of time before Ferrari confirmed Vasseur as his replacement. But as the days dragged on it was suggested the hold-up related to the Frenchman needing to exit to his contract with the Sauber Group where he was team boss at Alfa Romeo. Once that was finalised, Ferrari confirmed the 54-year-old with Andreas Seidl taking up the reins at Sauber. Reins that will be rebranded to Audi come 2026. Vasseur played a role in the German carmaker’s decision to buy a stake in Sauber, the first of those transactions having gone ahead in January. And yet, he revealed, he didn’t speak with Audi before signing with Ferrari. PlanetF1 recommends ‘Charles Leclerc is Ferrari’s key man, like Max is in Red Bull and Hamilton was for … [Read more...] about Fred Vasseur didn’t share his Ferrari plans with Audi until after he’d signed
Nissan Z Nismo Prototypes Spied On The Streets Of Arizona
Nissan has done well keeping its upgraded Z under wraps. We've only glimpsed a couple of test vehicles, but thanks to an enthusiast at NissanZClub , we have another look at what could be a new Nismo model. Specifically, we have Sean in Arizona to thank for this glimpse. He caught two prototypes on camera, getting a pretty good look from both the side and rear. Fortunately, the side views also capture a bit of the front, as we believe that's where a significant change from the standard Z will occur. We're talking about the split grille, which Nissan debuted on the Fairlady Z Customized Proto just over a year ago. More importantly, the automaker announced in early January that the split grille will enter production as a dealer-installed option for Japan-spec cars, later this year.
