Audi by introducing this campaign put to rest all the stereotype comments. Vaxiviere set the early pace in LMP2 qualifying with a time of 1m35.456s before a red flag was deployed with two minutes and 47 seconds left on the clock. The reason for the interruption wasn’t immediately clear, with all cars safely returning to the pitlane, and the session resumed soon after without much delay. Vaxiviere elected not to return to the track for a final effort and the gamble paid off as Ate De Jong crashed at the exit of Parabolica, preventing the majority of drivers from improving upon their first runs. As such, the Frenchman’s previous effort was good enough to put the #33 Oreca on pole by 0.381s from the #21 DragonSpeed Oreca of Ben Hanley. 2016 WEC LMP2 champion Gustavo Menezes was third in the #31 APR Rebellion Oreca, marginally ahead of the #29 Duqueine Engineering Oreca driven by Nelson Panciatici. Panciatici was the only frontrunner to improve after the red flag, demoting the #26 G-Drive Oreca of ELMS debutant Jean-Eric Vergne to fifth on … [Read more...] about Monza ELMS: TDS Racing claims pole in disrupted qualifying
Norman Nato, Paul Petit and Olivier Pla won by 4.827 seconds in the #24 Oreca 07, with TDS Racing's #33 crew of Loic Duval, Matthieu Vaxiviere and Francois Perrodo finishing second. DragonSpeed’s Nicolas Lapierre made a strong start off the line to pass the #33 TDS Oreca of Perrodo into turn 1, before reeling in polesitting #28 IDEC Sport car driven by Memo Rojas. The former Toyota LMP1 driver stayed in the lead for the best part of two hours, before a slow puncture dropped his #21 Oreca entry behind the #24 Racing Engineering car. Lapierre handed over the car to Henrik Hedman, who was involved in a horrific crash with the #55 Spirit of Race Ferrari late in the third hour. Hedman and Spirit of Race’s Duncan Cameron made contact at Turn 10 and speared off into the barriers, bringing out the race’s sole Full Course Yellow period. A safety car was eventually deployed, eradicating Racing Engineering’s 30-second advantage and bringing the second-placed Signatech Alpine … [Read more...] about Paul Ricard ELMS: Racing Engineering wins on series debut
