Verstappen wants talks over FIA’s ‘messy’ F1 track limits policing
Red Bull driver Verstappen was engaged in a close fight with Mercedes rival Lewis Hamilton throughout the season-opening grand prix in Bahrain that was settled in controversial fashion. Verstappen overtook Hamilton around the outside of Turn 4 with four laps to go, but exceeded track limits when doing so, meaning he had to give the position back. Hamilton was then able to hold on for victory by 0.7 seconds. Hamilton had been regularly running wide at Turn 4 throughout the race after FIA race director Michael Masi wrote in his event notes that track limits would not be policed there as they were in practice and qualifying. But a query from Red Bull about how often Hamilton was running wide prompted race control to warn Mercedes that he was gaining an advantage by running off-track, suggesting a change in policy mid-race. Red Bull boss Christian Horner and Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff both questioned the approach to track limits after the race. Horner said that … [Read more...] about Verstappen wants talks over FIA’s ‘messy’ F1 track limits policing

Mercedes Explains Why The 2022 EQS Still Has Traditional Mirrors
It doesn't have to do with regulations. As you would expect from an absolute EV flagship with a six-figure price tag, the Mercedes EQS is brimming with tech. From its powerful dual-motor AWD setup to the 56-inch Hyperscreen, the fullsize luxury sedan is worthy of its status as the S-Class of electric cars. That said, some would argue there's one glaring omission – side cameras. Daimler CEO Ola Källenius explained in an interview with Automotive News Europe why the R&D team behind the EQS decided to stick with good ol' side mirrors. Long story short, Mercedes was concerned that seeing what goes on behind the vehicle would've resulted in motion sickness. Not only that, but the electricity needed to power the cameras would've almost negated the aerodynamic benefits created after replacing the bulky mirrors with tiny cameras. Even with chunky side mirrors, the Mercedes EQS is still the most aerodynamic series production car ever built. With the 19-inch AMG wheels … [Read more...] about Mercedes Explains Why The 2022 EQS Still Has Traditional Mirrors
