Romain Grosjean has passed his judgement on the new Alpine pairing and warned there could be a “fight between egos.” Pierre Gasly made the switch from AlphaTauri to Alpine late last year as Fernando Alonso left to take up Sebastian Vettel’s old spot at Aston Martin, but the Frenchman’s move brought questions of how he would get on with his new team-mate. Gasly and Esteban Ocon grew up in the same region of France and raced against each other from an early age but despite being friends in their younger years, their relationship was said to have soured. That fractured relationship has not been tested up until now with both making it to Formula 1 with different teams but now that they are under the same roof, old tensions could bubble up once again. Mick Schumacher ‘was certainly the better’ long-term choice for Haas
Mick Schumacher would have been a “better choice” for Haas than Nico Hulkenberg for the 2023 Formula 1 season from a long-term perspective. That is the opinion of former F1 driver Marc Surer, who remains hopeful that the son of seven-time World Champion Michael will go on to enjoy a successful grand prix career. Schumacher will act as Mercedes’ reserve driver this season after being dropped by Haas at the end of a 2022 campaign in which he recorded just two points finishes, with former Renault driver Nico Hulkenberg – who last raced in F1 on a full-time basis in 2019 – named as his replacement. Surer, who made 82 F1 starts between 1979 and 1986, has been left puzzled by Haas’s decision to drop Schumacher after two years, suggesting the German’s flashes of potential in 2022 hinted at a significant breakthrough in his third full season in 2023. Mitsubishi has a long and storied racing heritage that includes vehicles like the Gallant, Lancer, Pajero, and Montero, just to name a few. Under its Ralliart subsidiary, it successfully competed in the World Rally Championship and Dakar rally. That's why when the company added a series of vintage rally videos to its YouTube channel this week, it was like finding a treasure trove for fans of the three-diamond company. The videos cover 40 years of Mitsubishi and Ralliart off-road racing. Starting with the original Colt in 1967, you can watch highlights of WRC and the Dakar rally, events that Mitsubishi won multiple times, establishing the company as a force to be reckoned with. McLaren fire up 2023 car for the first time as new era begins
McLaren have fired up their 2023 car for the first under the watchful eyes of Oscar Piastri, Andrea Stella and Zak Brown. 2023 marks the new dawn of a new era at one of Formula 1’s most historic teams with a new driver and new team principal charged with returning McLaren to the front of the grid. Piastri will fill the boots of his compatriot Daniel Ricciardo while Stella has stepped up to replace the Sauber-bound Andreas Seidl. It is just a few weeks until the 2023 car, expected to be named the MCL37, is shown to the world and McLaren have teased fans with a video of the car being fired up for the first time. Inside their Woking factory, members of McLaren staff were seen gathered around the car inside the F1 department which lies on the other side of a window from the famous boulevard.
