Although Lewis Hamilton usually enjoys an oversteering car, the Briton says with his W14 it feels like he’s sitting on the front wheels and that’s “one of the worst feelings if you’re driving a car”. After last year’s disappointment, Hamilton recording his first winless season in Formula 1, the Briton had hoped to rebound this season. So far there’s been no sign of that. While Red Bull have pulled clear of the pack, their advantage said to be as much as a second per lap in race trim, Mercedes are already working on a new concept after Toto Wolff admitted they wouldn’t win with the car as it is today. Additional reporting by Michael Lamonato Hamilton gave voice to his frustrations at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix where he was four-tenths down on George Russell in qualifying, saying it’s a “miserable” feeling when he does not feel “connected” to the car he drives. He explained in Melbourne that’s in part because of where he sits in the car, revealing it’s “too close” to the … [Read more...] about Revealed: Why the W14 is not suited to Lewis Hamilton’s strengths

Watch out Max Verstappen…Fernando Alonso wants your number 33!
Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso have joked about Alonso being able to use the number 33 next year, as he has become associated with the number recently. Alonso scoring two podiums in a row since joining Aston Martin have resulted in obvious excitement about the possibility of the two-time World Champion being able to fight for his first victory in a decade. With Alonso currently on 32 Grand Prix victories, should he manage to climb back onto the elusive top step of the podium, it would mark the Spaniard’s 33rd Grand Prix victory. As a result, with hype about Alonso ramping up at home in Spain, it’s the Aston Martin driver who is slowly but surely becoming more associated with the number 33 – Max Verstappen’s permanent race number! Verstappen hasn’t raced with the number 33 on his car since the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, with the Dutch driver making the most of his opportunity to run the number 1 on his car as a result of becoming the World Champion in 2021 and ’22. … [Read more...] about Watch out Max Verstappen…Fernando Alonso wants your number 33!
Max Verstappen clear there was no ‘miscommunication’ with Red Bull over Sergio Perez
Sergio Perez was left confused and rather unhappy with Red Bull’s radio communication in Jeddah, but Max Verstappen feels there was no communication breakdown. In the closing stages of the Saudi Arabian GP at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, Perez was leading and was on for the fastest lap bonus point as well, and with team-mate Verstappen in P2, it meant Perez was on course to lead the World Championship for the first time in his career. Perez was managing the pace to bring home that win and head the one-two finish, but Verstappen, having been told by Red Bull that the fastest lap was not of interest as he had complained about further driveshaft issues, nonetheless went on to set it on the final lap, thus ensuring that he goes into the Australian Grand Prix as Championship leader. Perez was understandably frustrated and felt that different information had been given to him and Verstappen, though by the time he arrived in Melbourne, his stance had changed. “[Things] are great, we … [Read more...] about Max Verstappen clear there was no ‘miscommunication’ with Red Bull over Sergio Perez

NCAA takes seat on bench in the political game
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 6 The NCAA has taken a seat on the bench in the political game. The organization that governs college athletics was once at the forefront of hot-button issues such as the Confederate flag and transgender rights. But that stance evolved quickly as one Republican-controlled state after another rushed to pass laws that supporters hail as a war on “wokeness,” even as critics deride them as exclusionary and a step backward in human decency. The NCAA's new approach came into sharper focus during March Madness as Texas — which has largely banned abortion and was debating a host of proposals that would limit gay and transgender rights — prepares to host both the men's and women's Final Four this weekend. Nary a word has been spoken about moving these events out of Houston and Dallas. “It's just an extraordinary time, which requires extraordinary courage, an uncommon … [Read more...] about NCAA takes seat on bench in the political game
Fiery train derailment in Minnesota prompts evacuations
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 12 RAYMOND, Minn. (AP) — A train hauling ethanol and corn syrup derailed and caught fire in Minnesota early Thursday and nearby residents were ordered to evacuate their homes, authorities said. The BNSF train derailed in the town of Raymond, roughly 100 miles (161 kilometers) west of Minneapolis, about 1 a.m., according to a statement from Kandiyohi County Sheriff Eric Tollefson. This latest derailment happened as the nation has been increasingly focused on railroad safety after last month's fiery Norfolk Southern derailment that prompted evacuations in East Palestine, Ohio, near the Pennsylvania border. Residents in that town of about 5,000 remain concerned about lingering health impacts after officials decided to release and burn toxic chemicals to prevent a tank car explosion. State and federal officials maintain that no … [Read more...] about Fiery train derailment in Minnesota prompts evacuations
Northern Virginia’s clout is fading amid General Assembly retirements
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 The political center of gravity in Virginia's General Assembly was once largely in the Washington suburbs - where, in recent years, veteran Democratic lawmakers from the region pushed through sweeping changes such as abolishing the death penalty while securing hundreds of millions of dollars in state funding for their communities. Now, Republicans control the House of Delegates, and several of those Democratic veterans are leaving the state legislature at the end of the year - taking with them a lot of Northern Virginia's political clout. Local government officials here worry that the shift in leadership positions in the state's Democratic Party - southward to the Hampton Roads area - means Northern Virginia will lose important state funding for schools, transportation and other services at a time when their jurisdictions are still dealing with the economic impacts of the coronavirus … [Read more...] about Northern Virginia’s clout is fading amid General Assembly retirements
