Earlier this year, the government announced that the practice of issuing special number plate series to NGOs was to be stopped. Those that were previously approved before the decision was announced would however be able to continue sales, with a one-year grace period being given to sell and register these numbers. It looks like quite a few special plates made it through before the announcement – one more that has appeared is the IM series. This one has been around for a bit though, given that bidding dates were listed as being from October 1 to October 22, with the results having been due on November 1, which was a month ago. The series, ranging from IM 1 to IM 9999, is a special series plate that was approved for the Environmental Management and Research Association of Malaysia (Ensearch), with sales being undertaken by Nfort MSC on behalf of Ensearch. Like many of the special series plates, minimum tender price, and that for a single digit (Diamond) is a rather pricey … [Read more...] about IM special number plate series

Another special number plate series will be open for tender very soon, and this one is E. The series will be open for bidding on November 1 until November 15, with the results scheduled to be released in December, according to the website of Exotic Ventures, the organisation behind the plate series. Tendering for numbers in the series, which will run from E 1 to E 9999, will be available online. Prospective buyers simply have to enter the E plate number that they wish to make a bid for, key in the bid amount, fill up all the required details in the form and pay a RM5 administration fee online. There’s a guideline for a minimum tender price, and that for a single digit is RM15,000, followed by double-digit repeating numbers (22, 33, 99) at RM10,000, while bids for triple- and quad-digit repeating numbers start from RM8,000 and RM5,000 respectively. The cheapest bid you can make is RM200, for a standard four-digit number. You can imagine numbers like E 43, E 63, E 92, E 200 and E … [Read more...] about E number plate series open for bidding on November 1
Here’s another special number plate series, UA. Tender for numbers UA 1 to UA 9999 are open till October 1, and results are scheduled to be released on October 8. UA number plates can only be registered at the main JPJ Wangsa Maju outlet. The management secretariat does not state what UA stands for, or what organisation the tender proceeds will go to. However, bank drafts are supposed to be addressed to “IM4U Plat”, which means that it might be from the same people behind the IM4U special series, one of the early ones that hit the streets back in 2013. IM4U stands for 1Malaysia For Youth. Wait, aren’t special number plates from private organisations no longer allowed by the new government? In May, transport minister Anthony Loke said that the practice will end, as “this is government revenue and we intend to collect all of it.” He explained that the NGOs that issue the plates pay JPJ RM1 million for the rights, which is way lower than what they … [Read more...] about UA number plate series now available, open till Oct 1

A RARE number plate which has just three characters is expected to fetch more than £80,000 when it goes to auction. And it's one of an exclusive group of short registrations that are proving very popular among collectors. The "J19" plate is registered to Jersey in the Channel Islands, and is one of just a handful of single letter, double number registrations in the region. It's currently attached to a Taiwanese Sym Mio 50cc scooter, but auctioneers have said the moped is practically worthless.
