Cognizant Of Fires, Govt. Admits To Lapses In Safety & Quality of Electric Vehicles

May 20, 2022 by www.carandbike.com Leave a Comment

The recent spate of fires in electric scooters led to the government investigating the matter and pulling up manufacturers about the quality standards that went into making batteries and other electrical components. However, this has been more of a reactive measure and the government recently admitted that it lapsed when it came to not bringing the necessary safety standards for electric vehicles. Speaking at the recently held inaugural edition of EV Tech Delhi 2022, General (Retd) VK Singh, Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, said, "We are cognizant of the fact that we have had issues with the electric batteries, especially two-wheelers. There is a need for the industry, as well as all the others who are enforcing to ensure that the problems are sorted. From the ministry side, we are taking actions to further lay down guidelines so that safety measures are adequate, and we do not have that type of incidents we have had in two-wheelers in the recent past." May 20, 2022 by www.chron.com Leave a Comment

Here’s a collection curated by The Associated Press’ entertainment journalists of what’s arriving on TV, streaming services and music platforms this week. MOVIES — In the satirical comedy “Emergency,” college seniors Kunle (Donald Elise Watkins) and Sean (RJ Cyler) set out for an epic night of partying only to return home to a shocking scene: Their door is ajar and a woman is passed out on their floor. The men are Black and the woman is white and they know that calling the police is not a straightforward proposition. The film, directed by Carey Williams and written by KD Dávila, was one of the breakouts of the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year for its penetrating look at racial dynamics in a heightened, comedic setting. It’s currently playing in theaters for a limited time before streaming on Amazon Prime Video starting Friday, May 27. — “Navalny,” the riveting documentary about Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been making the rounds in theaters and on CNN, … [Read more...] about New this week: Dinosaurs, Def Leppard and ‘The Responder’

A GOP power grab shatters 30 years of political progress for Black voters in Galveston County

May 20, 2022 by www.chron.com Leave a Comment

TEXAS CITY — Miles inland from Galveston’s beaches and colorful vacation homes, a group of Black men dribble and jump on a covered basketball court, aiming for a chain-link net. Carver Park in Texas City, created during segregation, is considered the first African American county park in the state. It sits on land donated by descendants of freedmen who survived slavery and pioneered one of Texas’ oldest Black settlements, the footprint of which sits just a few blocks away. Until last year, the park sat at the heart of Galveston County’s Precinct 3 — the most diverse of the four precincts that choose the commissioners court, which governs the county along with the county judge. Precinct 3 was the lone seat in which Black and Hispanic voters, who make up about 38% of the county’s population, made up the majority of the electorate. The precinct sliced the middle of coastal Galveston County , stretching from the small city of Dickinson on the county’s northern end through … [Read more...] about A GOP power grab shatters 30 years of political progress for Black voters in Galveston County

As the study’s authors point out, there’s a widening gap between economic growth, parental employment and access to decent childcare opportunities . Congressional leaders are mulling over affordable childcare tax benefits, while many employers are looking to lead the way in establishing near-site childcare facilities to meet the growing demand. However, the agility of franchising might beat them to it. There are dozens of childcare franchises on the market today, focused on daycare, tutoring, afterschool activities, athletics, academies and schools. I was pretty happy with the car in Bahrain and in China we had some issues early on and couldn’t run, which didn’t help.” Bernie’s tax issue (Motorsport) “Had the HMRC laid claim to that £1.2 billion, it would have been spent on national health, schools, roads, defence – all the usual things. Synopsis Opposition leader Anthony Albanese's center-left Labor Party is a favorite to win its first election since 2007. But Morrison defied the opinion polls in 2019 by leading his coalition to a narrow victory. Vote counting started in Australia 's election on Saturday that will decide whether Prime Minister Scott Morrison 's conservative government can defy odds and rule for a fourth three-year term. Opposition leader Anthony Albanese 's center-left Labor Party is a favorite to win its first election since 2007. But Morrison defied the opinion polls in 2019 by leading his coalition to a narrow victory. His coalition holds the narrowest of majorities - 76 seats in the 151-member House of Representatives, where parties need a majority to form a government. Both leaders campaigned in Melbourne on Saturday morning before voting in their hometown of Sydney. Labor is promising more spending on care for children and the elderly. Watch for good local recovery plays

May 21, 2022 by www.bangkokpost.com Leave a Comment

Thai shares swung sharply in the past week within a range of 1,590 and 1,620 points, tracking a similar pattern in global equities. Volatility was fuelled by macroeconomic factors following the recent US Federal Reserve meeting and diverse interpretations of future Fed policy by market participants. Meanwhile, other global risk assets such as bitcoin and gold also nosedived. In the short run, we expect the supports at 1,530 and 1,550 to limit near-term downside for Thai shares. If the SET Index drops to those levels without material fundamental change, it could be the end of the down cycle for this year. We expect the market to move sideways in June and possibly rebound to test the initial resistance level at 1,650 to 1,660, and then at 1,680 to 1,700. We base this on the belief that negative news flows have largely been factored in, and investors have already trimmed their portfolios and squared most derivative positions since the SET started descending steadily from over 1,700 … [Read more...] about Watch for good local recovery plays
