Bisou will take the place of Taverna, the recently closed restaurant from the Dallas-based Lombardi Family Concepts, which also operates Toulouse Café and Bar at River Oaks District. No word on why Taverna shuttered. Cle Group is well known to the party set as operators of the hot spots Cle and Spire. Bisou, French for "kiss," will be helmed by chef Frederic Perrier, who Houston foodies may remember from the French restaurant Aura in Missouri City and Sugar Land. Perrier, a native of Lyon, France, is a member of Master Chefs of France. Tlaquepaque Marketplace revamps East End
On a down-at-the-heels strip of Telephone Road off the East End's Harrisburg corridor, the Tlaquepaque Marketplace bursts into view like an exotic flower in the desert. Colors assault the eyes: Dusty orange, bright fuchsia, turquoise — all the hues favored by Mexican villages and startling against the sleek downtown skyline that looms to the west. Built in Mexican Colonial style, the marketplace is the vision of Bolivian-born architect Julio del Carpio , whose projects are part of an ongoing renaissance in this historic but gritty community. A crackhouse until recently stood across the way. Now a snow-cone vendor occupies the cleared but shaggy lot. Improvements come in increments. "I believe in grabbing old buildings that most people would probably demolish and making something original out of them," del Carpio says. In the 2000 Census, Hispanics surpassed whites and blacks to become the dominant population group in Houston. But while more than 38 percent of city … [Read more...] about Tlaquepaque Marketplace revamps East End

This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 15 Mardi Gras is right around the corner, and that means Lousiana natives living in Texas are starting to get the urge to eat all things Creole and Cajun in preparation for Fat Tuesday. Luckily, as our friends at KPRC recently reminded us , you can strike two birds with one stone and combine the two most Louisiana things ever into one dish: the boudin king cake. Robert Carriker, a professor of at the University of Louisiana and founder of boudinlink.com and kingcaker.com, told the Beaumont Enterprise in 2015 that he was the original inventor of the doughy boudin-stuffed treat. When he posted a recipe for the boudin king cake on his website in 2015, he said it exploded in popularity. First look: Bisou restaurant at River Oaks District
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 21 The owners of Houston nightclub Cle worked hard to get the world's best deejay talent to the razzle dazzle club that has redefined Houston nightlife. And now those same partners have employed considerable effort – and no small amount of showy sophistication – to bring a new, high level of dining to Houston with Bisou ("kiss" in French), opening for dinner tonight at River Oaks District, 4444 Westheimer. Armed with a knockout design and a chef who happens to be among the most elite classically trained chefs in the country, Bisou is ready to start doling out the charm and maybe even a few pecks on the cheek. The 5,500-square foot restaurant, in the former Taverna that closed in June, represents a huge leap for the Cle Group that operates Cle and Spire nightclubs. It's a new … [Read more...] about First look: Bisou restaurant at River Oaks District

That said, Beyonce's tour could spark another online ticket failure similar to Taylor's Swift tour announcement last month when a bot attack overwhelmed the site, forcing music fans to turn to secondary markets with markups in the tens of thousands of dollars, according to Rolling Stone . Despite high prices, ticket sales are expected to soar as Beyonce performs the "crowned" Rolling Stone‘s top album of 2022. Beyonce went on Instagram on Wednesday to confirm the tour. H-E-B employee’s petition for grocery chain to change sick leave gains traction
An anonymous H-E-B employee is calling for company CEO Howard Butt, III to change the grocery store's sick day policy after alleging they were told to continue working after testing positive for COVID-19 on Jan. 1, 2023. "While I wasn't running a fever, I had terrible symptoms and by all means should have been encouraged to stay at home," the person posted in January, along with their petition . The employee states that the sick leave issue arose because of their testing positive for COVID, however the petition argues against the H-E-B's sick policy as a whole. The company's previous policy allowed employees to call out sick eight times over the span of a year. Now, employees could potentially lose their job if they call out more than three times in six months, according to a June 2022 article published by the San Antonio Report. H-E-B company policy uses a step system to track an employee's attendance, according to reporter Waylon Cunningham. Employees gain steps if they miss … [Read more...] about H-E-B employee’s petition for grocery chain to change sick leave gains traction
