Kia EV6 Meets Ferrari F355 In A Rather Unusual Drag Race

June 30, 2022 by www.motor1.com Leave a Comment

Listen to this article We know the new Kia EV6 is fast even if it’s not in the range-topping GT trim. Like nearly every modern electric vehicle, the South Korean hatchback crossover mashup offers rapid acceleration and plenty of power at any speed. But is that enough to beat one of the finest sports cars of the recent past? In a new Carwow video published just earlier today, the EV6 meets a Ferrari F355 in a direct drag race. At a glance, this may seem like a very unmatched competition but the truth is the two cars are almost perfectly matched. You might think the winner is clear here but that’s not the case. Gallery: 2022 Kia EV6: First Drive Review 65 Photos Let’s see the numbers. In this specification, the EV6 relies on two electric motors, one for each axle, with a combined peak output of 325 horsepower (239 kilowatts) and 446 pound-feet (605 … [Read more...] about Kia EV6 Meets Ferrari F355 In A Rather Unusual Drag Race

Listen to this article The 22-lap Moto3 race kicked of Sunday’s action at the TT Circuit Assen, with Japan’s Sasaki taking a maiden grand prix victory in a chaotic race. Sasaki started from pole but lost out to Leopard’s Tatsuki Suzuki off the line, before one of the title favourites Izan Guevara on the Aspar GasGas took the lead at the end of the second lap. Guevara led for the next 17 laps as the pack behind chopped and changed, before Sasaki came through at the Turn 5 hairpin in the closing stages. Sasaki would make his decisive move at the end of the penultimate lap as Guevara got swallowed back into the lead group of nine. Max Racing Husqvarna rider Sasaki resisted a late surge from Suzuki and Guevara to take his first career grand prix victory. Coming into the Turn 9 left-hander, the lead group shrunk when BOE Motorsport rookie David Munoz crashed and wiped out Ajo KTM’s Jaume Masia, while Sasaki’s teammare John McPhee slid out in his own incident. Through the … [Read more...] about Assen MotoGP: Full Moto2 and Moto3 race results

Can’t Afford A Classic Pre-War Race Car? Build Your Own Like This Guy Did

June 26, 2022 by www.motor1.com Leave a Comment

Listen to this article Let’s face it, purchasing a pre-war race car is way beyond most car enthusiasts’ budget leaving many of these cars to sit in collections attracting a nice layer of dust. This high cost didn’t stop Frans who built his one pre-war race car from the ground up. On Barcroft Cars' latest YouTube video, we get a behind-the-scenes glimpse of what it takes to build your own pre-war race car. Franz always loved the look of pre-war race cars and dreamed of owning one. Instead of purchasing a period piece, he decided to build his own. The resulting car is called Dutchie and it's a unique creation built around a period-correct drivetrain. Dutchie was a build inspired by the old race cars that would take on the Indy 500 in the early days of the race series. Franz designed and built Dutchie around a straight-8 engine and transmission from a stock of pre-war race car parts he acquired. After assembling the frame and drivetrain, Franz put a chair in the spot where … [Read more...] about Can’t Afford A Classic Pre-War Race Car? Build Your Own Like This Guy Did

Listen to this article The 27-lap Moto3 race opened up Sunday’s proceedings, with poleman Izan Guevara storming to a fourth career victory in an imperious display. Click here to be a part of the largest MotoGP survey – to have your voice heard and shape the future of the sport The Aspar GasGas rider grabbed the holeshot at the start and quickly put half a second between himself and the chasing pack behind. Guevara’s march continued to the point where he was a second out of reach in the early stages, with the Spaniard going on to open up a massive advantage of 5.2s come the final lap of the grand prix. As the Leopard Honda of Dennis Foggia and Guevara’s Aspar team-mate Sergio Garcia – who came from eighth on the grid – battled over second, Guevara eased to the chequered flag to score his third win of the 2022 campaign. Foggia made a mistake through the Turn 9 left-hander, which allowed Garcia to get a run on him into the big braking zone at Turn 12. Zhou Guanyu’s Alfa Romeo team predicted a bright future for the rookie Formula 1 driver after he achieved his best result of the season to date last weekend. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free The only newcomer in the 2022 field scored points on his debut in Bahrain. He improved with eighth place at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve , gaining one position after the chequered flag when Fernando Alonso was penalised. Alfa Romeo’s head of trackside engineering, Xevi Pujolar, said Zhou’s progress across the season had been steady and impressive. “He’s building the weekends very progressively,” said Pujolar. “Even in the race, he’s absorbing all the information that we give to him and he’s using that to perform what we need to do with the tyres – not only in the race, in qualifying [too].” Zhou has especially impressed his new team by keeping rookie errors to a minimum, Pujolar added. “I think also it’s taking this kind of approach without doing mistakes,” … [Read more...] about Alfa Romeo see “great future in F1” for Zhou after best result so far · RaceFans

Leclerc: Next four races ‘very important’ in title race

July 2, 2022 by www.planetf1.com Leave a Comment

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc believes that the next four races will play a key role in shaping his title chances in 2022. Leclerc came storming out of the blocks at the start of the new era in Formula 1, but his comfortable Championship lead was quickly eroded with Max Verstappen now establishing a 49-point buffer over his rival. Having not won a race since taking the chequered flag in Australia back in April, power unit problems and strategy mishaps have cost Leclerc dearly. And with four races to go until the mid-season break, Leclerc has picked out this period of the calendar, which sees Formula 1 compete at Silverstone , the Red Bull Ring, Paul Ricard and the Hungaroring, as a crucial run if he is to remain in the title picture. Speaking to reporters at Silverstone ahead of the British Grand Prix, Leclerc said: “I love it here. I love the track. I love fast corners in general. “This year we’ve got a bit more of a competitive car compared to the last times we came … [Read more...] about Leclerc: Next four races ‘very important’ in title race

Watkins Glen IMSA: Red flag halts race with under 90mins to go

June 26, 2022 by www.motorsport.com Leave a Comment

Listen to this article The clock has continued running during the red flag conditions, and with race organizers obliged to wait at least 30mins until the final lightning strike within a given radius of the course, the likelihood is that the clock will run out. The race stoppage coincided with a yellow-flag period after side-to-side impact between two LMP2 cars sent an entirely innocent GTD spearing off the road, suffering a heavy front-end impact. The story of the race so far DPi Tom Blomqvist led the field to the green flag and the Meyer Shank Racing Acura remained there for a few corners but Filipe Albuquerque’s similar Wayne Taylor Racing ARX-05 carried more momentum through the uphill Esses and was ahead by the time they braked for the Bus Stop chicane. Behind them, the Chip Ganassi Racing Cadillacs remained in third and fourth, Sebastien Bourdais’ #01 car ahead of Earl Bamber in the #02. Behind them, Kamui Kobayashi in the part-time #48 Ally Racing Cadillac of … [Read more...] about Watkins Glen IMSA: Red flag halts race with under 90mins to go

Bottas: I lost joy of F1 racing alongside Hamilton

June 23, 2022 by www.planetf1.com Leave a Comment

Alfa Romeo driver Valtteri Bottas said he almost walked away from Formula 1 after two years racing alongside Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes. The Finn was parachuted in to replace 2016 World Champion Nico Rosberg for the 2017 season, with the former Williams driver taking over the second Mercedes seat. Bottas explained that he had gone into those initial seasons with the mindset of challenging for the Drivers’ Championship, and claimed three wins en route to third place overall in 2017. However, his 2018 season saw a downturn in form as he fell to fifth overall with no victories – the same year that Lewis Hamilton defeated Sebastian Vettel to claim title glory. The difficulty of racing alongside Hamilton almost caused Bottas to walk away from the sport, with the Finn revealing he was in a dark place by the time his first two seasons alongside Hamilton had ended. “At the end of 2018, I almost stopped, it was so close,” he told the Motor Sport Magazine podcast . “Just … [Read more...] about Bottas: I lost joy of F1 racing alongside Hamilton
