All 22 drivers finished the Japanese Grand Prix but for some of them it had been a frustrating day at the wheel. Carlos Sainz Jnr had a “horrible race” in his Toro Rosso, frustrated by his car’s lack of power with its 2015 Ferrari hardware. He has been out of the points for the last half-a-dozen races as other teams out-developed Toro Rosso. Another driver facing disappointment when the chequered flag fell was g Romain Grosjean . Both Haas drivers started inside the top ten but neither of them finished there. Grosjean came close but Esteban Gutierrez finished well behind following a run-in with Sainz. The other main theme of the race on the radios was the growing frustration drivers had with backmarkers. The Ferrari drivers were particularly vocal on the subject, although as always we only get to heard the messages chosen by Formula One Management. Vandoorne wants Formula E cars to make drivers look “more like heroes” · RaceFans
Stoffel Vandoorne’s arrival in Formula 1 was never in question after stamping his authority on many junior categories, culminating in a dominant GP2 title win in 2015. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free After deputising for Fernando Alonso at the 2016 Bahrain Grand Prix, and impressing by out-qualifying team mate Jenson Button and finishing in the points, he was duly ushered into a full-time F1 seat the following year. But just as he burst onto the scene, the team’s form nosedived in what proved to be its final year with struggling engine supplier Honda. Vandoorne failed to pick up a single point until round 11 in Hungary and finished the season with a points tally of 13, just four off his team mate, a lowly 16th in the drivers’ standings. Matters improved somewhat in 2018. Vandoorne started strongly, taking points in three of the four opening races, including an impressive recovery drive in Bahrain to eighth after wheelspin at the start dropped him to … [Read more...] about Vandoorne wants Formula E cars to make drivers look “more like heroes” · RaceFans
Max Verstappen doesn’t want Daniel Ricciardo to do his simulator work for him
Max Verstappen may be reunited with former team-mate Daniel Ricciardo but does not want to rely on the Australian’s sim work. One of the sport’s best pairings has been reunited for 2023, even if Ricciardo is in a third driver role, but there remains speculation as to what that will entail for the Australian. Red Bull have hinted he will be used in promotional events, similar to the role David Coulthard has played in recent years, but that he will also help the team’s F1 preparations with work in the simulator. Christian Horner has also said that Ricciardo will be available as reserve driver for a few races in the 2023 calendar. But one driver who would rather do the sim work himself is two-time World Champion Verstappen, who said he would always rather do his own times in the simulator than rely on the results of the test driver. “I think our simulator is one of the best in the industry,” he said as reported by Speedweek.com. “We feed in data from the vehicle that we … [Read more...] about Max Verstappen doesn’t want Daniel Ricciardo to do his simulator work for him
Alfa Romeo’s one big weakness that they want to eradicate for F1 2023
Alfa Romeo believe matching their rivals in one critical area will vault Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu up the Championship standings in 2023. The Zurich-based team started last season in strong form, propelling brand new driver Valtteri Bottas to sixth in Bahrain while 2022 rookie Zhou Guanyu earned a points finish in tenth on his F1 debut. Bottas, fresh from winning the Constructors’ title in his final Mercedes season, produced a string of impressive results including the season highpoint: fifth at Imola. The Finn scored 46 valuable points in the first nine races but after leaving Canada, he would add just three more. While McLaren and Alpine built a buffer and Aston Martin hauled back into the midfield battle, Alfa were struck by a string of reliability headaches. Unable to unlock more performance fast enough, their healthy Bahrain advantage evaporated. “Around the summer shutdown, the pace at which (other teams) were developing or making changes on track was a little bit … [Read more...] about Alfa Romeo’s one big weakness that they want to eradicate for F1 2023
Slotkin preps Senate run after winning tough reelection bid
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 6 LANSING, Mich.. (AP) — Just three months ago, Rep. Elissa Slotkin was one of the most vulnerable Democrats in Washington, fighting an expensive campaign for reelection in a Michigan district that Republicans were sure they could retake. That was all a distant memory recently as Slotkin sat beaming next to Sen. Debbie Stabenow at a Lansing luncheon commemorating Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Fresh off a surprisingly comfortable 5 percentage-point victory, Slotkin was eager to praise Stabenow, the dean of Michigan Democrats, whose Senate seat is suddenly open after the four-term senator announced her plans to retire. “She knows what it takes to win and she is not going to let her seat flip when she leaves,” Slotkin said of Stabenow in an interview. “She feels, I think, very connected to making sure her legacy is upheld by passing the torch to someone who can win it.” … [Read more...] about Slotkin preps Senate run after winning tough reelection bid
