Mercedes-AMG is working on a mid-cycle update for its GT sports car due in time for the 2020 model year. At the top end, we know AMG is planning a so-called “clubsport” package for the GT R model. But judging by our latest spy shots we could also be looking at a new six-cylinder option being added at the bottom of the rung. The latest prototype sports four round exhaust tips, a design that so far has only been used by AMG on cars with six-cylinder powertrains, like the recently revealed GT43 4-Door Coupe (shown below) and CLS53. 2019 Mercedes-AMG GT 43 4-Door Coupe Earlier prototypes for the updated GT featured four square-shaped exhaust tips in the typical AMG style. It means that the prototype above could be fitted with a six-cylinder powertrain, specifically AMG's new 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 and mild-hybrid system. In 43 guise the powertrain delivers 362 horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque, and in 53 guise it's good for 429 hp and 384 lb-ft. It's possible … [Read more...] about Mercedes-AMG planning 6-cylinder option for GT sports car?

Morgan Aero 8 received a farewell modification called Aero GT. The premiere of the novelty took place at the Geneva Motor Show in 2018. Outside, the Aero GT is distinguished by the presence of a special aerodynamic body kit, the elements of which are made with the application of computational fluid dynamics methods. Stylistically, such a body kit in many ways resembles a racing version of the Aero 8, with the coupe receiving additional flaps and a diffuser. Being built on an aluminum chassis, the new Morgan Aero GT weighs only 1,180 kg. The car was equipped with an adjustable suspension, and in motion, it leads the 4.8-liter V8 engine from BMW. Note that the production of this unit is already terminated so that the “farewell” modification of the sports car was the last model with a similar power unit. Working in conjunction with the six-speed mechanics (also Bavarian production), this engine develops 372 hp. and 490 Nm of torque. As a result, from a place to a hundred, the … [Read more...] about Morgan presented the Aero GT sports car

They’re all familiar cars from the days of GT6, but one has enjoyed a more substantial facelift than the others. We’re referring, of course, to the Toyota Supra RZ. We’ve talked about it plenty already: it’s GTPlanet’s second most-requested car after all. We drove it too. Now, thanks to community member emula, we can take a closer look at the car’s visual evolution.Polyphony infamously kept the Supra RZ as a Standard car throughout the PS3 era. It was an odd decision to say the least, as one of the only 276hp JDM icons from the first game to not get the Premium treatment. But as you can see above, the wait has been worth it. The Supra, simply put, is a car visually transformed. In our last GT Sport vs GT6 comparison, we looked at the iconic Shelby Cobra. The updates there were slight, as … [Read more...] about GT Sport vs GT6 Comparison: The Super Premium Supra

But until that happens, the game’s long-running Seasonal Events continue on adjacent to new kid Sport’s daily races. It’s in the latest batch of Seasonals that Polyphony has coyly dropped these hints.
