The AMG GT R Pro builds on the GT R, revealed in 2016, with more power, less weight and new aggressive aerodynamics. Powered by the same 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 found in other variants, the GT R Pro boasts 577bhp and 700Nm – a 28bhp and 20Nm increase. As a result, the track-orientated machine can cover the 0-60mph sprint in 3.4 seconds before going on to reach a 198mph top speed. Helping to keep that increased power under control are a number of mechanical tweaks, including the addition of adjustable coilover and lightened torsion bars, while retuned dynamic engine and transmission mounts aim to ‘improve agility’. Mercedes-AMG has used a number of weight-saving tactics too, with … [Read more...] about Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro revealed alongside refreshed sports car range

Mercedes-AMG is working on a mid-cycle update for its GT sports car due in time for the 2020 model year. At the top end, we know AMG is planning a so-called “clubsport” package for the GT R model. But judging by our latest spy shots we could also be looking at a new six-cylinder option being added at the bottom of the rung. The latest prototype sports four round exhaust tips, a design that so far has only been used by AMG on cars with six-cylinder powertrains, like the recently revealed GT43 4-Door Coupe (shown below) and CLS53. 2019 Mercedes-AMG GT 43 4-Door Coupe Earlier prototypes for the updated GT featured four square-shaped exhaust tips in the typical AMG style. It means that the prototype above could be fitted with a six-cylinder powertrain, specifically AMG's new 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 and mild-hybrid system. In 43 guise the powertrain delivers 362 horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque, and in 53 guise it's good for 429 hp and 384 lb-ft. It's possible … [Read more...] about Mercedes-AMG planning 6-cylinder option for GT sports car?
Mercedes-AMG could build a baby sports car to take on the Porsche 718 as well as fill the void of the Mercedes-Benz SLK, which is expected to be phased out after the current generation. Officials at AMG are yet to confirm that such a car is in the works, but Autocar, citing an anonymous source at Mercedes, reports that the car is in the planning stage. “A lot of thought has gone into how Mercedes-AMG can better leverage its success in motorsport, particularly Formula 1 and endurance racing,” the source told the British rag. “One idea is a sports car that is relatively attainable financially and ideally suited to track day running, but it is just an idea and not a committed project right now.” If given the green light, the car could go the mid-engine route like the Porsche 718, as well as AMG's upcoming Project One hypercar. And also like its intended rival, it could come in coupe and convertible body styles, and with four-cylinder power, Autocar reports. Register for our free newsletterOpel has confirmed that it will release a new GT concept later in the year as a design vision for the brand. The manufacturer has only shown a teaser image of the concept so far, which reveals a large sloping bonnet and imposing LED lights, as well as a prominent Opel badge. The GT car was announced as part of Opel and Vauxhall’s Tech Day held in Rüsselsheim, Germany, showcasing the new research and development centre. Mark Adams, vice-president of design at Opel, said the car would showcase “truly what we want the Opel and Vauxhall brands to be”. At the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, Opel unveiled another GT sports car concept, which took inspiration from the classic ’60s and ’70s GT car as well as the more modern Monza concept. The upcoming concept is expected to be a development of this 2016 car. Adams said: “When you do a great design it also has a timeless quality that we also want to capture in our execution. … [Read more...] about Opel teases new GT sports car design concept
Morgan Aero 8 received a farewell modification called Aero GT. The premiere of the novelty took place at the Geneva Motor Show in 2018. Outside, the Aero GT is distinguished by the presence of a special aerodynamic body kit, the elements of which are made with the application of computational fluid dynamics methods. Stylistically, such a body kit in many ways resembles a racing version of the Aero 8, with the coupe receiving additional flaps and a diffuser. Being built on an aluminum chassis, the new Morgan Aero GT weighs only 1,180 kg. The car was equipped with an adjustable suspension, and in motion, it leads the 4.8-liter V8 engine from BMW. Note that the production of this unit is already terminated so that the “farewell” modification of the sports car was the last model with a similar power unit. Working in conjunction with the six-speed mechanics (also Bavarian production), this engine develops 372 hp. and 490 Nm of torque. As a result, from a place to a hundred, the … [Read more...] about Morgan presented the Aero GT sports car
