Franz Tost feels Charles Leclerc is ‘two tenths faster’ than Carlos Sainz
Charles Leclerc is essentially a faster driver than Carlos Sainz judged on raw speed, according to Franz Tost. The AlphaTauri team principal has only worked with one of the two Ferrari racers, that being Sainz, but appears adamant about his opinion. With the 66-year-old Austrian having been the Red Bull sister team’s boss since 2005 following the buyout of Minardi, he oversaw Sainz’s introduction to Formula 1 in 2015 alongside Max Verstappen in an all-rookie line-up. After nearly three seasons with Toro Rosso, the Spaniard joined Renault in October 2017, moved to McLaren for the 2019 campaign and then Ferrari as Leclerc’s team-mate in 2021. Despite finishing 5.5 points above Leclerc in last season’s Drivers’ standings, Sainz has largely had to play second fiddle to the Monegasque this term and currently trails him by 22 points and three race wins to one. In addition, Leclerc can feel as though he has missed out on dozens of points – potentially even another six … [Read more...] about Franz Tost feels Charles Leclerc is ‘two tenths faster’ than Carlos Sainz
New Land Rover Defender Ends Up On A Tow Truck… In Lego Form
Listen to this article They say that 90 percent of Land Rovers ever made are still on the road today; the other 10 percent reached their destinations, probably on a tow truck. That jest has been around since time immemorial, which says something about Land Rover's reputation. A video from YouTube aims to represent that joke, featuring a new Land Rover Defender that's being carried by a flatbed tow truck. Both in Lego form, of course. The video came from Lego Life and while it sounds like a dig at the British automaker, it actually was a video to showcase something different. Gallery: Lego Technic 2020 Land Rover Defender 3 Photos The video was made to demonstrate how good the Tatra Lego truck's suspension setup. Tatra is a Czech vehicle manufacturer and is one of the oldest car companies in the world founded in 1850. Unlike the officially released Land Rover Defender Lego Technic , the Tatra T813 8x8 … [Read more...] about New Land Rover Defender Ends Up On A Tow Truck… In Lego Form
COTA boss Bobby Epstein makes the case for more than three US races
Formula 1 will have three races in the United States next year – and Circuit of The Americas boss Bobby Epstein sees the potential for more. Epstein presides over the US Grand Prix in Austin, which was joined on the 2022 calendar, in its usual date in the second half of October by the inaugural Miami street circuit race, which took place in May. From 2023, those grands prix will be joined by another in Las Vegas, set to be rostered for mid-November . But such is the growing popularity of F1 with an American audience, in no small part due to Netflix docuseries ‘Drive to Survive’, that Epstein does not necessarily see the line being drawn at three races per season in the US. “The demand in the US right now is incredible and will definitely carry three races – and it could carry a lot more,” said the COTA executive chairman, quoted by Motorsport.com . Epstein was speaking in reference to ticket sales for this year’s United States Grand Prix on the weekend of October … [Read more...] about COTA boss Bobby Epstein makes the case for more than three US races
Ralf Schumacher thinks Daniel Ricciardo’s time in Formula 1 is over
Daniel Ricciardo looks to be facing the end of his Formula 1 career if he leaves McLaren at the end of this season, says Ralf Schumacher. The Australian has reportedly been told he will be replaced by his younger compatriot Oscar Piastri for the 2023 campaign. That news has yet to be confirmed, however, and forms a leading storyline in the ‘silly season’ saga that began with Sebastian Vettel announcing he will retire after the season-finale Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in November. Aston Martin therefore needed a driver and signed Fernando Alonso from Alpine , who promptly announced Piastri as the Spaniard’s successor. That was knocked down within a couple of hours by the reigning Formula 2 champion though, who posted on social media the information was “wrong” and that he would not be driving for Alpine next year – as his strong links with McLaren began to emerge. Talk of the amount of compensation Ricciardo would demand from McLaren if his contract was ended a … [Read more...] about Ralf Schumacher thinks Daniel Ricciardo’s time in Formula 1 is over
Jack Doohan: Alpine F1 seat would be ‘very difficult to turn down’
Jack Doohan has said he would find it “very difficult” to turn down the chance to race for Alpine in 2022, if the team made that call. The Australian racer believes he’s ready to make the step up to Formula 1, should the unlikely scenario arise that he gets a call up from Alpine. Alpine are currently in a state of limbo over the identity of their second driver for 2023, after confirming Oscar Piastri for the role following Fernando Alonso’s departure for Aston Martin. Immediately after the confirmation of Piastri, the reigning Formula 2 Champion released a statement on social media to deny that he has signed a deal with Alpine and definitively will not be racing for the French marque next season. Piastri’s public refusal to join Alpine for what would be his rookie season is due to an apparent tug-of-war over his services between Alpine and McLaren – the Woking-based team signing Piastri as a replacement for Daniel Ricciardo. Jack Doohan hopeful of getting F1 call Joining … [Read more...] about Jack Doohan: Alpine F1 seat would be ‘very difficult to turn down’
