The revamped Volkswagen Polo 6 GTI promises to be more Golf-like and more authentically 'GTI'. But does it make for a better compact hot hatchback? Or a properly affordable one? There are a few good arguments that the all-new 2018 Polo 6 GTI – as it's officially called – might well have dispatched bigger brother Golf GTI as the key anchor point in Volkswagen’s fun hatchback family. That's because the once poorer and merely ‘cheap’ compact segment GTI looks to have come of age. And if our first-drive impressions from its local launch are any proper measure, the newest flagship Polo has lifted its game in a great many areas, becoming more desirable to a broader church of buyers, including buyers eyeballing go-fast Golfs. One key pitch is purely conceptual. At a touch over four metres long and 1.8 metres wide, at 1355kg kerb weight and powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder producing 147kW, the hot Polo broadly replicates the still much-loved Mk V … [Read more...] about 2019 Volkswagen Polo 6 GTI review

[Read more...] about GTI Performance Days
Tweet TweetA rendering with the Volkswagen`s Golf Sportsvan GTI has just hit the web, which is actually a closer look on how the future model would look like. The rendering image was designed by the famous Theophilus Chin, showing the MPV in a GTI-like version, after the standard Golf Sportsvan was unveiled a few weeks ago. To be a reminder, the Volkswagen Golf Sportsvan is replacing the well-known Golf Plus model and it rides on the now standard MQB platform and designed to offer enough space inside and fuel economy as well. Inside, the Volkswagen Golf Sportsvan is tweaked with a lot of technology, like new infotainment system with front impact collision prevention, blind spot monitor, lane keeping assist and much more. Under the hood, the Volkswagen Golf Sportsvan comes with six supercharged engines. The three petrol burners, the TSIs, develop somewhere between 85 horsepower and 150 horsepower. The remaining two diesel units, the TDIs, produce 110 horsepower and 150 horsepower … [Read more...] about Volkswagen Golf Sportsvan GTI Hits the Web
Register for our free newsletterThis is VW’s current GTI family in its entirety and we were lucky enough to sample all three cars both on road and on track around Spain’s Ascari circuit. Though the GTI line-up isn’t intended to be a series of hardcore track monsters, all three coped remarkably well with the high-speed work on a shortened version of the famous Ascari track. What are they? Consisting of the Mk7.5 Golf, Mk6 Polo and Mk1 Up!, they’ve all been breathed on by the brand’s GTI division and gifted more power, stiffer chassis, glitzy makeovers and iconic design touches such as tartan seats and the GTI’s signature red pinstripe. With power figures ranging from 113bhp for the tiny Up! GTI to 242bhp for the Golf GTI with Performance Pack, there’s certainly a wide spread of ability here. But all share the same end goal – to be fun pocket rockets, built with VW quality and tame enough to be more than usable day-to-day. What’s new? … [Read more...] about Up!, Polo and Golf – Volkswagen’s GTI family tested on and off track
Once upon a time, Volkswagen was among the few automakers offering a proper compact hot hatch: the popular Golf GTI. Eventually, other companies started chasing this sector, and we now have a multitude of hatchbacks with powerful engines and good driving dynamics to choose from. One of the newcomers is the Hyundai i30 N. It’s the Korean brand’s first-ever hot hatch and it uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine, with 250PS (246hp / 184kW) or 275PS (271hp / 202kW). It takes 6.4sec or 6.1sec, respectively, to sprint to 100km/h (62mph). Watch Also: The VW Golf MK2 GTI Is Still Everything You Like In A Hot Hatch On paper, it doesn’t sound that exciting, and surely it cannot beat the iconic Volkswagen Golf GTI in a drag race, right? Now, we won’t spoil the following video by telling you which of the two is faster, but we will remind you that the German model is less powerful: 230PS (226hp / 167kW) as standard, and 245PS (241hp / 180kW) in the … [Read more...] about Can Hyundai’s New i30N Beat The VW Golf GTI In A Straight Line?
