The life of basketball star Brittney Griner has been immortalized within the glossy pages of a new 22-page comic book by TidalWave Comics. Dubbed "Female Force: Brittney Griner," the comic written by Michael Frizell and illustrated by Martin Gimenez, chronicles Griner's journey from her exploration in her sexuality and identity, playing collegiate basketball at Baylor University and rise to fame in the WNBA, to her harrowing detainment in Russia and recent return to the U.S. Griner, 32, was arrested on Feb. 17, 2022 at a Russian airport for carrying vape cartridges containing hashish oil in her luggage. She later pleaded guilty to drug smuggling charges and was sentenced to nine years in a Russian penal colony.
