The Tucson-based compact pickup appears to have a tiny bed. Unlike the cab-over Porter (H-100) truck only sold in some markets, the Santa Cruz will be a global pickup from Hyundai. It’s not going to have anything in common with the no-frills Porter as it will be a fancier lifestyle utility vehicle based on the latest-generation Tucson . You can already tell it’s related to the compact crossover by looking at the polarizing design details peeking through the camouflage. Our spies have caught a near-production prototype of the Santa Cruz undergoing final testing on a frozen lake in Finland. Hyundai is stubbornly keeping the full camo attire even though we’re likely only months away from the world premiere. Despite the disguise, you can easily tell the bed is quite small, thus making the little truck a competitor to the recently updated Honda Ridgeline and the forthcoming Ford Maverick . Baguette: No qualms about being ‘Cerumo of Honda’
Baguette and Tsukakoshi, who share the #17 Honda NSX-GT again in 2021, are 35 and 34 years old respectively and can boast a combined 19 seasons of GT500 experience. By contrast, three of Honda's other top class line-ups - Team Kunimitsu, ARTA and Nakajima Racing - have one driver with two seasons or less of top-class experience, and Team Mugen features rookie Toshiki Oyu alongside second-year driver Ukyo Sasahara. However, Baguette says that he and Tsukakoshi being the only 'all-veteran' driver pairing in the Honda stable has its benefits, likening their situation to that of vastly experienced Cerumo Toyota duo Hiroaki Ishiura and Yuji Tachikawa. "Of course I believe myself and Koudai can beat anybody else out there, and if you don’t think like that it’s better not to race," Baguette told Motorsport.com. "But Honda has done a strong job on the line-ups for the Bridgestone-tyre cars. All six drivers are really strong. "In 2019 one of our strengths was qualifying speed, … [Read more...] about Baguette: No qualms about being ‘Cerumo of Honda’
