Mercedes have shed further light on the bizarre collision between its two drivers which occured during qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free George Russell was given a formal warning by the stewards after making contact with his team mate Lewis Hamilton on the pit straight. The pair were overtaking Carlos Sainz Jnr’s Ferrari at the time. The team’s head of trackside engineering Andrew Shovlin said the incident occured because both drivers were trying to use Sainz’s car to get a slipstream to improve their lap times. “The drivers were trying to find a car finishing a lap in order to get a slingshot starting the lap themselves,” said Shovlin in a video released by the team . “So that will give them more straight-line speed. “You can find around a tenth, maybe a little bit more on the straight. That car that was finishing then peels in and they can then conduct the rest of the lap in clear air.” However the two … [Read more...] about Hamilton and Russell were seeking tow from Sainz when they collided – Mercedes · RaceFans

What are LMH and LMDh? The top Le Mans 24 Hours series explained
That’s two different rulebooks to which a manufacturer can build a car for the top category of the series. So on the 16-stong Hypercar entry for Le Mans this year there are nine LMHs and six LMDhs. What is LMH and LMDh? LMH stands for Le Mans Hypercar, a rulebook that has been in force in the WEC since 2021. LMDh is new for 2023, but you’ll never see the name written out, it’s not officially an acronym. But it is easy to guess what the letters mean given that the class was formulated by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest at Le Mans and IMSA based at Daytona in the USA. That little ‘h’ on the end refers to the fact that these cars, like their LMH rivals, incorporate hybrid technology. The two types of car are very different in some respects, but actually very similar in others. What’s the difference? LMH allows a manufacturer to design and develop its own car from top to tail - or rather from the nose to the tail. That includes all elements of the hybrid system, which, if … [Read more...] about What are LMH and LMDh? The top Le Mans 24 Hours series explained
Mercedes reveal true cause behind Hamilton-Russell Barcelona contact
Mercedes trackside engineering director Andrew Shovlin has explained the “miscommunication” that caused George Russell and Lewis Hamilton to make contact in qualifying in Barcelona at the weekend. Now the dust has settled on the weekend, the team have analysed what happened between their two drivers when Russell appeared to move across on Hamilton on the pit straight as they both started flying laps. The Mercedes duo made contact, with Hamilton stating Russell’s move across track was “really dangerous” – and Russell and Mercedes were duly given a formal warning by the FIA after the 25-year-old claimed he was not told Hamilton was approaching behind. With both drivers starting a flying lap at the same time and Hamilton closing up on Russell at a rate of knots, Shovlin revealed that both Mercedes drivers had used the same person, Carlos Sainz, as a reference point to try and gain a tow in order to start their fast lap in Q2. This led to the confusion that caused them both to be … [Read more...] about Mercedes reveal true cause behind Hamilton-Russell Barcelona contact
Porsche Wants To Own The ‘Ring With Its New EV Hypercar Concept
When most people turn 75, simply being alive and well is enough of a gift. For Porsche's 75th birthday, however, the iconic sports car company has given itself one hell of a birthday present, a hypercar that the brand says will be the fastest production car ever around the Nurburgring. And yes, it'll be an EV. The Mission X Or it will be, at least, if Porsche decides to build it. This is the Mission X, just a concept for now, but a strong indicator of what Porsche's next moon-shot could look like. Gallery: Porsche Mission X Concept 7 Photos How big of a shot? Porsche says this thing will offer a remarkable power-to-weight ratio of at least one horsepower per 2.2 pounds of weight from a new, all-electric, 900-volt architecture. If we use Porsche's last hypercar as a benchmark, 2015's 918 Spyder and its 3,700-pound curb weight, that would mean somewhere … [Read more...] about Porsche Wants To Own The ‘Ring With Its New EV Hypercar Concept
2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE Review: One Expensive Electric
Verdict 8.5 / 10 Design | Comfort | Tech | Performance | Safety | Fuel Economy | Pricing | FAQs –Los Angeles, California The Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan is a polarizing figure in the modern EV marketplace. From the cab-forward stance to the tech-laden cabin, the EQE does nothing to hide its electrified credentials, looking more like a space pod than the E-Class to which it is nominally related. But there’s more to the mid-size Mercedes EV than meets the eye. With a dual-motor powertrain pumping out 402 horsepower and 633 pound-feet of torque, the 2023 EQE500 is as overpowered as it is overstyled. And yet, I can’t help but be charmed by its insistent futurism, with Speed Racer four-wheel steering and synthwave interior illumination keeping things interesting when the off-the-line thrust starts to feel passé. A vehicle's ratings are relative only to its own segment and not the new-vehicle market as a whole. 1996 Lexus LX 450 Project Car: From Ragged To Rugged Part 2 – Tires
One of the first things I noticed when I inspected the new-to-me 1996 Lexus LX 450 sitting in my driveway was the horrid condition of the tires. Date-coded to 2011, the Toyo Open Country A/T rubber showed plenty of dry-rotting and visible cracks – as well as some regrettable gloss black overspray on the spare tire from when the previous owner repainted the trailer hitch. The first order of business was a $1,700 trip to the mechanic, who resealed the front axle, replaced the front wheel bearings, installed a new set of oil pan gaskets, cleaned the throttle body, and reset a check-engine light. But with that out of the way, Noah and I sourced a set of LT285/75R16 Firestone Destination X/T tires. The stock 275/70R16 size is surprisingly hard to find, and the 265/70s already on the Lexus look like roller skate wheels. Hopefully, the 32.8-inch-diameter Destination X/Ts would fit the bill, so to speak, measuring 2.2 inches taller and about eight-tenths of an inch wider than the … [Read more...] about 1996 Lexus LX 450 Project Car: From Ragged To Rugged Part 2 – Tires
Hickman still planning to use Superbike in Isle of Man Senior TT despite issues
The FHO rider finished second in Sunday's Superbike TT having come close to beating the outright lap record at 135.445mph on a bike with brake and quick-shifter issues. On the same M1000RR in Superstock trim, Hickman stormed to his first win of the 2023 TT in Tuesday's first outing for the class. This has led to questions about him potentially racing his Superstock bike in the Senior finale on Saturday. But speaking to Motorsport.com on the Isle of Man on Thursday, he insists the plan is still to race the Superbike, and he will try some more changes in Friday and Saturday's solo warm-up laps. "I don't know, to be totally honest," he said when asked how likely he thought it would be that he would race his Superstock bike in the Senior. "At this moment in time, we are racing the Superbike. That is the plan. After tomorrow that might change, but I don't know. "We'll probably ride in the warm-up on the Senior [day]. If it's not fixed tomorrow, I'll probably ride it Saturday … [Read more...] about Hickman still planning to use Superbike in Isle of Man Senior TT despite issues

Sebastian Vettel wins the Canadian Grand Prix · RaceFans
Sebastian Vettel claimed his third win of 2013 in the Canadian Grand Prix. Vettel held his advantage from pole position and pulled out a lead that never looked threatened despite a brush with the wall and an off-track moment at the first corner. Fernando Alonso spent the race working his way up to second, passing Lewis Hamilton in the final stint. Hamilton lost time lapping the Force India of Adrian Sutil, who was given a drive-through penalty for not moving over quickly enough. He wasn’t the only driver being frustrated by traffic. Mark Webber tangled with Giedo van der Garde at the hairpin, breaking the Red Bull’s front wing and leading to Van der Garde receiving a ten-second stop-go penalty. Nico Rosberg was the only other driver to finish on the lead lead lap as Vettel put everyone up to sixth-placed Jean-Eric Vergne a lap down. Next was Paul di Resta , who made a single pit stop on his way to seventh, a fine recovery after being eliminated in Q1 yesterday. … [Read more...] about Sebastian Vettel wins the Canadian Grand Prix · RaceFans
