Ferrari have been told by Tom Coronel the only option to win a World title is to write Max Verstappen a “blank cheque”. This year’s championship has seen even more instalments in the Max Verstappen show, don’t call it a podcast , with the Dutchman dominating the season. With 13 wins in 16 races, including a record-breaking run of 10 on the trot, the reigning World Champion only needs three points at the next race in Qatar to seal title number three. “If I were the boss of Ferrari…” His imperious form, which includes nine pole positions and 15 podiums, has set him apart from his rivals with even his team-mate Sergio Perez a distant second. As for Ferrari, although they are the only team aside from Red Bull to win a grand prix, 2023 will go down as yet another season in which much was promised but little was delivered. It has Dutch racing driver Coronel urging them to write Verstappen a “blank cheque” to steal him away from Red Bull. “If I were the boss of Ferrari,” … [Read more...] about Ferrari urged to make sensational ‘blank cheque’ move for Max Verstappen

Max Verstappen wants to change ‘podcast’ meme: ‘They make me fall asleep!’
Max Verstappen has called for fans to “come up with something a bit more fun” as a meme after reiterating his dislike of podcasts following his Japanese Grand Prix victory. With Verstappen on the podium at all but one race in F1 2023, the scenes in the post-race cool-down room have been branded ‘the Max Verstappen podcast’ by fans online, likening the Red Bull driver’s fellow competitors to a cast of rotating guests. Ahead of the podium ceremony at Suzuka, McLaren driver Lando Norris made reference to the meme in conversation with Verstappen as the pair, along with third-placed Oscar Piastri, sat to watch the highlights of the race. Verstappen responded with laughter before remarking: “I don’t even like podcasts!” Max Verstappen set to clinch F1 2023 title in Qatar Asked in the post-race press conference about the meme, Verstappen said: “I don’t even know who came up with that because I don’t even like podcasts, they make me fall asleep. Sergio Perez admits where he struggles compared to ‘special’ Max Verstappen
Red Bull’s Sergio Perez has spoken candidly about the area he feels he struggles most compared to teammate Max Verstappen. Perez has struggled for consistent form throughout 2023, alongside the relentless onslaught of Max Verstappen as his teammate as the Dutch driver has won all bar three races so far this season. In his third year alongside Verstappen at Red Bull, this season has perhaps been Perez’s weakest – that’s despite starting the year strongly as he beat Verstappen in a straight fight in two of the first four races. Sergio Perez: Max Verstappen is ‘always’ at 100% Opening up on some of the struggles he’s faced at Red Bull this year, coming to terms with the consistency of his teammate, Perez outlined where he feels Verstappen’s greatest strengths lie – and why it’s such a big ask to reach the same level. “Verstappen can adapt very quickly,” he told De Limburger. “I struggle a bit more with that. As a result, he managed to get more out of the car and also to do … [Read more...] about Sergio Perez admits where he struggles compared to ‘special’ Max Verstappen
Max Verstappen hits back with ‘not real fans’ claim after Red Bull streak snapped
Max Verstappen issued a clear opinion that anyone who welcomed the end of Red Bull’s winning streak in Singapore is not a “real fan”. With Verstappen having set a new Formula 1 benchmark with a remarkable 10 grand prix wins in a row, while his Red Bull team reeled off 15 on the trot, it was looking like nobody would find an answer to stop this irresistible force in F1 2023. Then Singapore happened. Shock one-lap struggles for Red Bull, causing Verstappen and Sergio Perez to be eliminated in Q2, left Verstappen with too much damage to undo in the race, with the timing of the Safety Car also not helping his cause, as Verstappen was forced to settle for P5 and Perez P8 as both winning streaks came to an end. Max Verstappen hits out at “not real fans” Red Bull’s absence left a four-way battle for the victory, with Carlos Sainz, Lando Norris, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton all scrapping for the win in a thrilling conclusion to the Singapore Grand Prix, with Sainz claiming … [Read more...] about Max Verstappen hits back with ‘not real fans’ claim after Red Bull streak snapped
Japanese Grand Prix: Max Verstappen in indomitable form in FP1 at Suzuka
After Red Bull’s Singapore troubles, Max Verstappen looked unbeatable in Friday’s opening practice for the Japanese Grand Prix as the reigning World Champion sat P1 from start to finish. The 25-year-old, determined to bounce back after Red Bull suffered their first loss of the season last time out, clocked a 1:31.647 to beat Carlos Sainz by 0.626 seconds. Lando Norris was third fastest. Cloudy, sticky, with the track temperature at 37’C and humidity an unpleasant 75%, such was Verstappen’s determination to regain his top-driver status – and shrug of his Singapore’s woes – he was waiting at the end of the pit lane for several minutes for FP1 to begin. Max Verstappen leads from start to finish First out on track with his RB19’s rear end covered in flo-viz paint, he fired in a 1:33.7 as his opening gambit. Carlos Sainz also had a car full of flo-viz but not his own, the Ferrari driver getting sprayed by Lando Norris’ McLaren. With a mix of Pirelli’s hard, medium, and test tyres … [Read more...] about Japanese Grand Prix: Max Verstappen in indomitable form in FP1 at Suzuka
Japanese Grand Prix: Max Verstappen lays down a marker against Red Bull rivals
Left to digest a wretched Singapore Grand Prix weekend, Max Verstappen emphatically answered the question in Japan as to whether that was a one-off, or the beginning of Red Bull’s downfall. His 1:30.688 in Friday’s second practice for the Japanese GP weekend put him 0.3sseconds ahead of Charles Leclerc at Suzuka with Lando Norris third fastest. On a muggy afternoon at the Suzuka circuit, the drivers hit the track on a mix of compounds with Pirelli’s prototype non-marked tyres also in play. Valtteri Bottas on the test tyres set the pace in the first 10 minutes with a 1:33.1. Max Verstappen in control in Japan There was an early problem for Verstappen, at least from those looking in from the outside, as the Red Bull driver had a tear-off stuck to the side of this car. But what might have been an issue for some was not for the reigning World Champion as he laid down a 1:31.3 to go fastest of all on the soft tyres. It was an interesting move, and maybe a sign of their … [Read more...] about Japanese Grand Prix: Max Verstappen lays down a marker against Red Bull rivals
Japanese Grand Prix: Max Verstappen makes a statement with practice hat-trick
Max Verstappen made it clear Red Bull are back as he clinched the practice hat-trick at the Japanese GP with a 1:30.267 in FP3, Saturday’s final hour of running ahead of qualifying. But while the Dutchman was quickest of all, McLaren briefly usurped him to run 1-2 with Lando Norris finishing 0.240s down with Oscar Piastri a further 0.04s back. It was a slow start to Saturday’s action with not a single driver venturing out in the first five minutes before Carlos Sainz, the winner of the last race in Singapore, broke the silence. Max Verstappen once again set the pace at Suzuka Charles Leclerc followed him out and went ahead of his team-mate with a 1:31.9. That kicked off the action… As the much-improved McLarens ventured out, Lando Norris went P1 ahead of his team-mate Oscar Piastri, while it was suggested Ferrari may have started on a higher fuel load to give them a bit more data ahead of Sunday’s grand prix given they’re a team that suffered with high tyre degradation. … [Read more...] about Japanese Grand Prix: Max Verstappen makes a statement with practice hat-trick
How race engineer dare ‘wound up’ Max Verstappen for ‘stunning’ pole lap
Max Verstappen wasn’t going to be happy unless he produced a 1:28 in qualifying, having been spurred on by race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase. The Dutch driver produced a 1:29.012 on his first run in Q3, already a lap that looked good enough to confirm himself in pole position as he was four-tenths of a second quicker than second-quickest Oscar Piastri. But Verstappen wasn’t done, as he took another set of fresh softs for his second run in Q3 and stormed around in a 1:28.877 to beat his own time by another tenth of a second and wind up almost a full six-tenths clear of anyone else. Max Verstappen: I knew there was still a little bit left On the slowdown lap, Verstappen was heard on the team radio to race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase saying, “There you go, 28”, referring to his laptime. Speaking in the press conference after claiming his 29th career pole position, Verstappen was asked about the message, with the reigning World Champion revealing he had been spurred on by … [Read more...] about How race engineer dare ‘wound up’ Max Verstappen for ‘stunning’ pole lap
