NYC mayor slams Texas governor for busing migrants in test of sanctuary cities

August 5, 2022 by www.chron.com Leave a Comment

(Bloomberg) -- New York City Mayor Eric Adams blasted Greg Abbott for using migrants as “political pawns” after the Texas governor bused a group of 50 people to the city on Friday. Abbott, who has been sending state-sponsored busloads of migrants to Washington, D.C. for months, said he wanted to test New York’s commitment to being a “sanctuary city.” “His continued use of human beings as political pawns is disgusting, and an embarrassing stain on the state of Texas,” said Adams spokesperson Fabien Levy in a statement. Adams later called Abbott’s actions “despicable” at an unrelated press appearance. Abbott sent out a press release on Friday morning announcing that Texas had sent what he called the first bus of migrants to New York City’s Port Authority station. “I hope he follows through on his promise of welcoming all migrants with open arms so that our overrun and overwhelmed border towns can find relief,” Abbott said of Adams. Television footage from Fox News appeared to show a … [Read more...] about NYC mayor slams Texas governor for busing migrants in test of sanctuary cities

How Audi DTM heavyweights Rast and Muller compare

August 4, 2022 by www.motorsport.com Leave a Comment

Listen to this article “It’s a different championship compared to what I was used to before,” says three-time DTM champion Rene Rast of the series’ GT3 era. “These cars have ABS, they have traction control, they have less aero, more weight, completely different driving style.” A whole new world to the prototype-esque Class 1 machines they may be, but in GT3 cars the DTM’s cream of the crop is still apparent. That was attested at Imola where Audi’s two top names from the Class 1 period, Rast and Nico Muller, lined up together on the front row and finished in that order as Rast took his first win since returning from a year in Formula E. But there’s another key difference to 2020, and that’s the teams the pair are driving for. They have swapped camps, with Muller – Rast’s closest title rival in 2019 and 2020 – now firmly ensconced as part of the Team Rosberg crew with which Rast won each of his titles in 2017, 2019 and 2020. Rast meanwhile has joined Abt and is now working … [Read more...] about How Audi DTM heavyweights Rast and Muller compare

Monza Full Access: Episode 3

Listen to this article With the pre-event, practice and qualifying activities complete, the WEC paddock is focused on gearing up for the six-hour race. The Monza race also marks Peugeot’s debut with its new 9X8 Hypercar, and the WEC fly on the wall documentary joins Loic Duval on his preparations with the French manufacturer, as he reflects on his own return to the WEC top flight for the first time since 2016 when he competed for Audi. The Peugeot squad gains plenty of attention on the grid before the race, as Toyota drivers Brendon Hartley and Sebastien Buemi take a closer look at the 9X8, leading to the Kiwi pointing out the car has “two rear wings” rather than the car gaining most attention for running without a traditional rear wing configuration. Interest also switches to the other WEC classes, with the documentary inviting viewers into the United Autosports pre-race drivers briefing led by race engineer Gary Robertshaw, as the team discuss start tactics and … [Read more...] about Monza Full Access: Episode 3

Can the DTM’s reigning champion turn around his sluggish title defence?

August 10, 2022 by www.autosport.com Leave a Comment

It’s often said in sport that once you reach the top, the only way is down. All you can do is prolong the inevitable. To carry the champion's #1 is to have a target daubed on your back, signifying to all the benchmark against which success is measured. And it also means more scrutiny than normal is applied when results aren’t coming. That the high points of defending DTM champion Maximilian Gotz’s 2022 season so far have not come in the series he won last year says much about a title defence that has yet to properly get going. Finishing runner-up in the Nurburgring 24 Hours and the recent Spa 24 Hours is nothing to be sniffed at, and shows that the AMG Mercedes stalwart hasn't forgotten how to drive overnight. After all, it’s not for nothing that champion status is earned. But the Bavarian’s DTM results across the first half of the season make for unquestionably disappointing reading. He has a best finish of fifth to show for his switch from the Haupt Racing Team (HRT) to … [Read more...] about Can the DTM’s reigning champion turn around his sluggish title defence?

How one of F1’s greatest names was revived

August 16, 2022 by www.motorsport.com Leave a Comment

Listen to this article Brabham made its last world championship Formula 1 start in the 1992 Hungarian Grand Prix. Future world champion Damon Hill scraped his BT60B onto the back row of the grid and finished last, four laps down, before financial issues forced the team into obscurity. The Brabham family, of course, raced on, but that seemed the end of the road for the constructor that Jack Brabham and Ron Tauranac had founded three decades earlier. David Brabham, son of Jack, was busy carving out his own racing career in the 1990s, one that would yield two Le Mans 24 Hours class wins and outright success with Peugeot, plus titles in the All-Japan GT Championship and American Le Mans Series. But he never forgot about the team he had briefly raced for in F1 in 1990, a time he says brings "painful memories". "That's when it started to go wrong I think," says Brabham. "Middlebridge had bought Brabham and wanted me to drive in the F1 team. The year before, they had a great … [Read more...] about How one of F1’s greatest names was revived

Van der Zande to replace Muller for Fuji WEC round

August 16, 2022 by www.motorsport.com Leave a Comment

Listen to this article Dutchman van der Zande will replace Muller at the wheel of Vector Sport's LMP2 Oreca 07 alongside team regulars Sebastien Bourdais and Ryan Cullen for the Japanese race on September 11. Muller is having to skip the Fuji race due to a clash with the DTM's visit to Spa-Francorchamps , a conflict that also affects fellow Audi driver Rene Rast and Red Bull's Nick Cassidy. Van der Zande will be reunited with Bourdais, with whom he shares a Chip Ganassi Racing Cadillac in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. “We knew from the start of the season that Fuji clashed with a DTM round, and our deal with Nico was always on the understanding that DTM would be his priority in case of any clashes," said Vector Sport boss Gary Holland. "We are very grateful to both Cadillac Racing and Chip Ganassi Racing for releasing Renger to be with us for this one round – a perfect stand-in. "We are fully confident that he’ll fit it extremely well with Vector … [Read more...] about Van der Zande to replace Muller for Fuji WEC round
