Mercedes-Benz is confident it is “the first truck manufacture to bring the Apple CarPlay infotainment system into its vehicles.” While this might be technically true, Scania is also introducing the technology for its truck, claiming it’s “among the first in the industry” to do it. The German company says the connectivity will be offered for the Actros, Antos, and Arocs models equipped with the Multimedia Radio Touch radio system. Apple CarPlay will allow the driver to “safely and conveniently use his iPhone and a variety of apps while on the move.” Android users will probably be happy to hear the system also works with MirrorLink, the counterpart to Apple CarPlay. If you thought a semi-autonomous electric car from Apple is a wild idea, prepare to be shocked as another tech giant is reportedly working on a vehicle or, more precisely, a family of vehicles. Today Reuters reports that Huawei is close to entering the automotive business with first production models coming by the end of the year. The publication says four sources with “direct knowledge of the matter” shared preliminary information about Huawei's plans to dive into the auto industry. The company is reportedly in talks with at least two Chinese automakers to manufacture its electric vehicles. One of the companies is the state-owned Changan Automobile, which currently runs a joint venture with Ford for the local production of the Mustang Mach-EV electric crossover . Apple Granted Permission To Test Autonomous Vehicles In California
It’s the next big step in the tech company’s vision to build a fully self-driving car. Apple’s fully autonomous " Project Titan " may be dead in the water, but that doesn’t mean the California tech company has given up entirely on the idea of a self-driving car. According to Reuters , Apple has received its first permit to test its self-driving cars on public roads in California. The permit allows Apple to test drive three different vehicles with six different ‘drivers' sitting behind the wheel. All three of the vehicles registered are 2015 Lexus RX450h SUVs, according to the state DMV, and are equipped with the autonomous tech. The technology will be developed together with Bosch. Back in December, Apple wrote a five-page open letter to the NHTSA hoping to test on public roads.
