Admit it, doing 300 kph without breaking the law is cool. The remaining unrestricted sections of Germany’s glorious Autobahn are ideal for people wanting to push their cars to the maximum without having to worry about getting fined and losing their licenses. Doing it at night must be a surreal experience and this one-minute video gives as idea of how it feels like to (legally) hit such speeds on a public road. Carfection’s Henry Catchpole had the opportunity to get behind the wheel of the facelifted Porsche 911 GT3 RS to put the pedal to the metal in order to squeeze every last drop of performance from the naturally aspirated 4.0-liter engine. Meeke gets Rally Chile penalty for windscreen change
The Northern Irishman rolled his Toyota Yaris WRC on SS7 and was forced to remove the screen, fearing the glass would come into the car and injure him and co-driver Seb Marshall on the next stage. The stewards’ decision stated: “The crew removed their smashed windscreen in the control area between TC8 (Time Control 8) and start SS8. That contravened Article 42.1.2 of the FIA WRC sporting regulations. The decision is a one-minute time penalty." Meeke told Motorsport.com: “We were working inside a control. You’re not allowed to work inside the control. OK, that’s the rule. But were we trying to take an advantage? Did I want to do the stage without a windscreen? No. “There was an eight-minute delay in the control. I was sat there with my helmet on ready to go when the bonding on the screen started to give way. The screen started to fall down towards me. I said: 'No, we can’t do the stage. We retire.' The fragments of glass were starting to come into the car and I could have … [Read more...] about Meeke gets Rally Chile penalty for windscreen change
FIA looking into Hamilton’s anti-racism T-shirt at Mugello
Hamilton, who took pole position and victory at Mugello, wore a T-shirt before and after the race, that said on the front: 'Arrest the cops who killed Breonna Taylor'. On the back, it featured a picture of her face and the words: 'Say her name.' Taylor was a black medical technician from Louisville, Kentucky, who earlier this year was shot in her home by police after they attempted to serve a no-knock warrant on her home during a narcotics investigation. Her boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, fired a gun at the police believing them to be intruders, and they returned fire. Taylor was shot eight times and died from her injuries. The police officers involved in the incident have been under investigation to see whether they broke the law by using excessive force, or were simply acting in self defence after being shot at. VW gets 1.6 TDI fix approval and says diesel trick is legal in Europe
Both software and hardware changes are necessary. With the official approval of The Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) in Germany, VW is getting ready to kick off another recall campaign caused by the messy and costly Dieselgate . This time around, it involves a total of 2.6 million European cars equipped with the turbodiesel four-cylinder, 1.6-liter TDI engine from the now infamous EA 189 family. It’s installed in a wide array of models from Audi, Skoda, and SEAT, as well as in cars from the core brand. VW’s engineers will have to apply a “software update” to make things right once again, and owners of affected cars are going to be contacted by the company in the weeks to come. In addition, the engine will have to go through some hardware changes as a so-called "flow conditioner" will be affixed upstream of the air mass meter, a procedure which will require less than a half an hour of working time. With both software and hardware modifications in place, cars fitted … [Read more...] about VW gets 1.6 TDI fix approval and says diesel trick is legal in Europe
