Lucky for those concerned about the airport’s image, the CEO of Delta Air Lines sounds like a fan. “I continue to think of it as the best airport in North America, and that’s where we center our attention,” said Bastian, whose airline is based in Atlanta. “Most people are surprised when they hear that Detroit is our second-largest hub, you know, relative to the size of the city, relative to all the big markets that we serve, and one of the main reasons Detroit is such an important gateway for us is … the hub here." American Airlines raises checked-bag fees
The Associated Press Published 6:55 PM EDT Sep 20, 2018 Fort Worth, Texas – It’s official: It will cost you more to check a bag on any of the three biggest U.S. airlines. American Airlines said Thursday that it is raising fees for checking bags by $5 apiece each way, matching Delta and United. The first bag is now $30 and the second is $40. Those are each way, so checking two bags on a round trip will cost $140. High-spending frequent flyers and customers who book with the airline’s credit card typically avoid the fees. JetBlue, Air Canada and WestJet also have raised bag fees. Southwest lets customers check one or two bags free. U.S. airlines get about a quarter of their revenue from fees. DETROIT — Kia is recalling over a half-million vehicles in the U.S. because the air bags may not work in a crash.The recall apparently is related to federal investigation into air bag failures in Kia and partner Hyundai vehicles that were linked to four deaths. Vehicles covered by the recall include 2010 through 2013 Forte compact cars and 2011 through 2013 Optima midsize cars. Also covered are Optima Hybrid and Sedona minivans from 2011 and 2012.A Hyundai spokesman says he's checking to see if his company has a recall. Kia says it's working on a remedy and will notify owners June 27.Kia says in government documents that a short circuit can develop in an air bag control computer. We already have Pioneer Point, which was hyped as a shiny new development for the future and (despite knocking down Pioneer Market to make way for it) it’s nothing more than a white elephant. The only thing Pioneer Point has going for it is the EasyGym. The last thing Ilford needs is another white elephant – focus on getting better shops, stores and businesses on the High Road, and in The Exchange; rebuilding Ilford station and making the town a better place to live instead of this “mini Manhattan” nonsense.
