The Ferrari Purosangue, which is an SUV that the late Sergio Marchionne said he’d rather take a bullet over producing, will probably be large, powerful and expensive. And power will go to all four-wheels, which is par for the course for any premium SUV or crossover these days. During an investors presentation yesterday, the new Ferrari CEO Louis Camilleri said that the Purosangue (which I hope will use a different name for production) won’t be available in 2020 as originally promised because he wants it to be “perfect,” according to Motor Authority. The SUV will ride on the new front mid-engine platform that Ferrari will use for its upcoming GT cars. There will be a newly developed double-clutch transmission in the back of the car and the interior will be “specious and comfortable.” You can see more of the specifics on this slide from the presentation that Motor Authority was able to snag. Along with the front mid-engine layout, the automaker is … [Read more...] about The Upcoming Ferrari Purosangue SUV Will Have Four-Wheel Drive, Of Course

In the crowded metropolis of Hong Kong lives a man who knows more about off-road vehicles than possibly anyone else on earth. He has raced the Dakar Rally, torn apart priceless vehicles just to see how they work, written a book called The 4x4 Bible, and taught off-roading skills to locals. His name is Victor Ma, and while you may not have heard of him before, he is the King of Off-Roaders. Type his name into Google and you’ll find the mysterious collector mentioned dozens of times in 4x4-related articles and forum threads, but you’ll be hard-pressed to find anything more. Despite being widely renowned in China as the foremost authority on all things off-road, Ma has remained largely a mystery to the western world. Until now. Curious, he popped in and met a man whose enthusiasm for four-wheel drives impressed … [Read more...] about This Man Is The Four-Wheel Drive King Of The World And His Collection Will Blow Your Mind

Back in January, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration listed crash test ratings for the 2018 Mazda 6 in two distinctive flavors: the front-wheel model and the… all-wheel-drive variant? Wait a minute, Mazda isn’t making an AWD drive version of the sedan. Right? While there’s been plenty of confirmation for the Mazda’s new 2.5-liter turbocharged engine, we hadn’t heard anything about all-wheel drive. When questioned, the automaker said it couldn’t say anything about it one way or the other. However, Mazda North America CEO Masahiro Moro has admitted there could be a layout issue that would make pairing the new engine with all-wheel drive exceedingly difficult. It may have become too troublesome to even pursue the effort, as all mentions of the AWD Mazda 6 appear to have vanished from the NHTSA’s website. Moro said he still wants all-wheel action to play a part in Mazda’s future.“I think we … [Read more...] about All-wheel-drive Mazda 6 Prospects Looking Very Iffy
Mazda is studying the potential of offering all-wheel-drive sedans eventually. Both cars receive an overall five-star rating.Recently, Mazda’s North America CEO Masahiro Moro opened up to CarAdvice on this subject. He indicated there’s a layout issue that would prevent combining the new 2.5-liter turbocharged engine in the Mazda6 with all-wheel drive. However, he also noted there is plenty of demand for all-wheel drive cars in the U.S. “Four-wheel drive becomes a premium cue for U.S. consumers, and obviously, I have asked our R&D department to think about how we can accommodate four-wheel drive capability in the future,” he said. The 2018 Mazda6 goes on sale this spring, but will it … [Read more...] about Will the 2018 Mazda6 Offer All-Wheel Drive in the U.S.?
